Fun Summer Day Camp In Chicago

This is a sponsored post but all thoughts are my own.

My children’s favorite summers have been the ones when they attended day camp while I worked. They loved making new friends, playing all day, and spending hours outside. If you are still thinking about what to do with your kids this summer I’d encourage you to look into local day camps near you and, if you are located in Chicago, you’ll want to check out Apollo After School Summer Camps. Apollo After School, in partnership with Daystar School in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood, is offering a 7-week summer day camp in 2019!

Apollo After School offers summer day camps that are both fun and educational in a safe and welcoming environment. Their activities enhance children’s self-esteem and creative expression while keeping their brains sharp over the long break from school. Students at the Apollo summer day camp can expect to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a lot of fun.

What I really love most about the camps are the variety of activities that Apollo offers. Every week, campers will have experiences in science, math, arts and crafts, and cooking. They will also have opportunities to stretch their legs and get moving with different sports and group games. Students will participate in interactive enrichment activities along with classic camp games, crafts, and good old-fashioned playground time. I think that this camp encourages children to be well-rounded which I love and is how I raise my own kids to be.

The summer camp provides 7 weekly themes and children can participate in them all or just choose weeks that interest them (though I think enrolling your child in all the weeks is ideal because then they can try things they might not have before and they may discover new passions!) The weekly themes are as follows:

How fun do those all sound?! Each of these weeks are split into daily themes like ‘Farm to Table Food Fun’, ‘Comic Strip Creations’, ‘DIY Obstacle Course Challenge’, ‘Let’s Go To The Future’, ‘Water Science’, ‘Fossils and Dinosaurs’, and ‘Aliens’. There are so many cool things planned for the kids that they will be so excited to go each morning! Here’s a breakdown of a typical camp day so you can see how your children would be spending their day:

As you can see by the schedule, the camp offers before care and extended daycare which is convenient for working parents. Here are some more important details:

– Age: 4-10
– Address: Daystar School – 1550 S State St, Chicago, IL 60605

Encourage Your Child’s Creativity This Summer

I’m proud to share that I have a little budding inventor! Jacob had announced a while ago that he wanted to create video games when he grows up (along with playing professional football) but recently he has also shown an interest in becoming an inventor. Last week we were sitting in the drop off line outside of his school and he was telling me all these things that he wanted to create. Though many of them contained partially trademarked brands and copyrighted ideas I loved his spirit and creativity.

To help encourage him  to walk through creating things I have learned to use the Galileo Innovation Approach® and their 5 Key Mindset. First, we talk about what his goals are, whether he is trying to solve a problem or just create something fun. Next we brainstorm and generate ideas. Third, we talk about the importance of being Visionary as he begins the design and to be courageous as he starts to create. Fourth, I remind him to stay determined while he tests things. The last step is to evaluate. I ask him what worked and what didn’t and what he can do different next time.

If you have a child like mine, who is interested in creating things, I encourage you to develop your child’s sense of wonder this summer by enrolling them in Camp Galileo. Galileo is a summer camp that’s focused on STEAM education that teaches kids to explore, make mistakes and create without fear, all while inspiring creativity.

Camp Galileo, for kids pre-K through 5th grade, gives campers opportunities to take on art, science, and outdoor activities tailored to their level. They learn lasting innovation skills like collaboration and reflection and take home tangible creations like a rocket, photos inspired by Ansel Adams, or even an archery bow!

For kids entering 5th grade through 8th grade there’s Galileo Summer Quest. Campers can choose from 13 immersive majors, each confidence-building, collaboration-packed session gives them an opportunity to realize their personal vision in a new inspiring subject. Campers make short films, engineer catapults, whip up inventive dishes, design custom video games, and much much more.

By signing up now, you can lock into major Galileo savings this summer! For $40 off a week of Galileo Camp use code BEBOLD. This promotion can be combined with the Refer-a-Friend savings where you can save up to an additional $100.
