Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery {Giveaway}

(Disclosure: This is a sponsored post but all thoughts are my own.)

Did you know that home fires take the lives of more than 2,500 people each year in the United States? Most of these deadly fires happen while the people in the home are sleeping. I used to think that this was because they didn’t have smoke detectors but this is not the case. 71 percent of smoke alarms that failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries, and according to the National Fire Protection Association, three out of five fatal fire injuries take place in homes without working smoke alarms.

Those are alarming statistics. Today, an issue at the forefront of fire safety is not installing smoke alarms, but keeping smoke alarms working because households with non‐working smoke alarms now outnumber those with no smoke alarms. One company doing their part to bring this issue to the public’s attention is Energizer. They, along with local fire departments, have been holding events all throughout the country this month.

The easiest way to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors is to get in the habit of doing it when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings Time. A few extra seconds can make all the difference when trying to escape safely during a fire so it’s important to have a working smoke detector. This is also a good time to talk to your children about fire safety! You can find some coloring pages here.

Energizer Night Race For A Brighter World {Giveaway For Chicago Race Registration}

(Disclosure: I am a Blogger Ambassador for the Energizer Night Race but all thoughts are my own.)

Did you know that 1.3 billion people lack access to clean lighting, forcing them to rely on kerosene lamps? It sounds innocent, but kerosene is actually responsible for 1.5 million deaths annually. Without adequate lighting, children in these rural communities can’t study effectively. Physicians can’t provide proper medical attention after daylight hours. And, kerosene is so expensive that it ends up costing these families half of their income.

Energizer has decided to help by donating 14 million hours of light to families around the world through their partner, One Million Lights – a non-profit that provides clean, safe, affordable solar lighting to rural communities globally.

Energizer is hosting a series of races this year where participants race at night, with the light of an Energizer® headlight to guide them, letting them unite to raise awareness for the global need for safe, affordable solar light for the 1.3 billion people in the world living without electricity. This year’s Chicago Energizer Night Race is on June 7th.

Don’t forget that tonight you have to change your clocks back! While you are doing that you should also make sure to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

National Childhood Injury Prevention Week {Energizer Giveaway}

This week is National Childhood Injury Prevention Week and I’m working with Energizer to share news about this important safety week. There are many ways that children can get injured and I want to talk about one type of injury that can be avoided if the right precautions are taken. We all know little kids shouldn’t have small pieces around them because they are choking hazards but did you know there is one common household item in particular that could actually burn your child if swallowed? That item is coin lithium batteries.

Image from thebatterycontrolled.com

Read this startling information below taken from thebatterycontrolled.com:

In 2010 alone, more than 3,400 button battery swallowing cases were reported in the U.S., resulting in 19 serious injuries and in some cases, deaths. The number of cases resulting in serious injury or death has more than quadrupled in the past five years. When a coin lithium button battery gets stuck in a child’s throat, the saliva triggers an electrical current. This causes a chemical reaction that can severely burn the esophagus in as little as two hours. Symptoms of coin-sized button battery ingestion may be similar to other childhood illnesses, such as coughing, drooling, and discomfort. Once burning begins, damage can continue even after the battery is removed.

Isn’t that scary?! These little batteries are dangerous and so easily accessible in many homes. The National Safety Council and Energizer have teamed up to share some important tips every parent should know to help prevent injuries from the ingestion of Coin Lithium batteries to help keep kids safe.

The 4 S’s of Coin Lithium Battery Safety

·         STORE devices that use coin lithium batteries out of reach of children

·         SECURE the battery compartments of devices

·         SELECT battery packaging that meets federal guidelines for child resistance, such as Energizer’s coin lithium battery packaging

·         SHARE this information with your friends and family

Energizer led the industry by being the first to voluntarily develop packaging for its 20 millimeter coin lithium batteries that meets the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) strict guidelines for child-resistant packaging. I had the chance to test the Energizer packaging against a competitor’s packaging and there really is a difference. The Energizer package I could not open with my hands. It required scissors. The competitor’s packaging I was able to open in one try and with two rips was able to get to the battery.

 GIVEAWAY:

One reader will win an Energizer prize package that includes:

  Two (2) packages of Energizer Coin Lithium batteries

One (1) Energizer LED Nightlight (winner’s choice between Sleeping Beauty or Cars)

One (1) Energizer Weatheready 2-in-1 LED Light

Energizer’s “Power The Creativity” Event With Crayola

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

{Sorry for the blurry picture. He was scribbling so fast I couldn’t get a good shot!}

A couple of weeks ago the boys and I had the opportunity to go to an event sponsored by Energizer and Crayola. While I networked with other Chicago bloggers and learned about some of Energizer’s new products the boys had a chance to play and try out new Crayola toys. We had a great time and it was fun to attend an event with the boys since they love seeing what mommy does when she goes to “acago” {aka Chicago}.

The first product I learned about was the Energizer Flameless candle. I had received one previously from Energizer and loved it because it had the look of a burning candle but was safe enough to have around children and pets. What I did learn at the event though was that there was a timer on it so I could set it to go on and off. I currently have my candle sitting on a high shelf in my entryway and it turns on in the early evening and offers a nice flickering of light in an otherwise dark area.

The other product I learned about were the Energizer Max Batteries with Power Seal Technology. These batteries can hold their power up to 10 years on the shelf! Wow! They’d be great for an emergency kit because they last so long.

Energizer currently has a great promotion going on with Crayola. Here are the details:

I am excited to get some of the Crayola products the kids tried out, especially the Color Wonder Light-Up Paint Pallete. Here’s what the Crayola website says about our favorite product: “Create like a real artist in a magical mess-free way! The Magic Light Paint Palette lights up to match the color of whatever paint you use. Dip the brush in blue, it lights up blue – in red it blushes red and so on!”

(Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Energizer. I attended an event and received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.)

Energizer Battery Packs Giveaway

For decades Energizer has supported organizations helping to make a positive impact in local communities and around the world. This spring as part of the Energizer campaign—that’s positivenergy—they’re “building” on that commitment in a new way through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity®. Working with baseball legend and philanthropist Cal Ripken, Jr., Energizer is donating more than $300,000 and 1,000 volunteer hours to Habitat through a multi-city series of volunteer projects to help build new homes and revitalize existing homes for those in need.

Here’s where you can get involved.  With the rising cost of utilities, we can all use a little bit of help right?  Especially if we have a really hot summer!  So, beyond helping Habitat, Energizer is doing something to help us all out.  In addition to the series of volunteer projects, you will see the Energizer and Habitat for Humanity partnership coming to the shelves of your favorite stores. Through the Energizer Utility Cash program, you can collect codes from select Energizer battery and lighting products and redeem them online for savings, up to $25 total savings each per person/household/email address, off your own utility bill.  You start earning rewards with just two codes and will need 10 codes total to earn the full $25.  Or you can help make a positive impact and choose to turn the codes into a donation to Habitat for Humanity®.

Energizer Recharge Me, Please!

I’m a mom of two toddlers. Two toddler BOYS. Not to mention that my oldest is lets say… “spirited”. I’m constantly going in multiple different directions. I love my children so much but boy do they wear me out.

And obviously since you are reading this, you know I blog. I currently contribute to three sites with two more coming this month. That means that when I’m not chasing my cute little monsters children around I am on my computer writing and networking.

Then there’s the housework.

Laundry for six people is a big job. Two little ones means lots of outfit changes due to potty accidents and messy meals. There’s also a teenage girl in the home which means lots of debating on which outfit looks best and clothes strewn all over the floor which means I get the pleasure of washing extra clothes… ones that weren’t even dirty in the first place.

Then there are the dishes, the sweeping of the kitchen floor at least five times a day, and picking up toys.

TOYS. Toys that light up. Toys that move around. Toys that make music. Toys that talk to you. Do you know what the talking, singing, moving, music making toys mean to me? LOTS OF BATTERIES. And of course none of them only take one battery. They are all in 2’s or 4’s. Four batteries for a toy that makes loud, obnoxious music? Really? Yes, as if the toy’s noise making wasn’t enough to annoy me there is the added cost of buying all those batteries.

So along comes Energizer with a solution: the Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger. What a fabulous invention! Don’t buy packs and packs of batteries anymore! The new charger features a LCD screen with a countdown clock displaying the remaining charging time. It also has a fuel gauge indicating the current level of power in the batteries that are charging. No more guessing when your batteries are fully charged or hoping that the battery you pick up from your drawer has some “juice”. I also love the fact that the Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger has a bad battery alert that lets us know when the battery can’t be charged any more.

Even better… Energizer is not only a recharger of batteries but they want to rechargHER too! Both Barefoot Mommies and An Island Life are each giving away (2) $2,000 to people going to BlogHer. I am attending the conference and jumped at this opportunity to represent Energizer. Not only could I really use the sponsorship to fund my travel and my hotel stay but I feel I would be a great choice for one of the four sponsorships available because I really understand what it means to keep going, and going, and going, and going, and going…. I would love the chance to tell others about Energizer and their new Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger both at the conference and in my local community. Also, as a previous Social Media Manager, I really feel I could use the skills that I have to network online and use social media tools like Whrrl, Facebook and Twitter to spread news about Energizer. I know that I would go above and beyond what is required to accept this sponsorship and really become a brand ambassador for them.

That being said, I would be honored if you, my readers, would help me out. Could you please send a tweet or two for me to let Energizer and the ladies at An Island Life and Barefoot Mommies know that you feel I should get chosen? I would really, really appreciate it…

You can tweet:

and
