Chocolate Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day is this Friday! If you are still looking for gift ideas I have a few to share from Fannie May and appreciate them sending me a box of chocolates to review. I shared around the Holidays how chocolates were my go-to gift to give and the same is true for gift giving around Valentine’s Day. Since most people love chocolate as much as I do it’s an easy gift to give.

When I received the box of chocolates last week, Jacob was excited to see all of the candy. Every day he has been picking out one to try and we take guesses as to what is inside the chocolate coating. It’s a special moment between the two of us and something we both look forward to each day.

Along with the typical box of chocolate, Fannie May has an assortment of special Valentine’s Day gifts. Here are some of my favorite:

Champagne Celebration Strawberries

Giant, hand-picked strawberries are generously dipped in creamy white and pink champagne-infused real chocolate and decoratively sprinkled with gold, platinum and clear sugar.

Assorted Chocolates – Heart Box, 2 lb.

Milk chocolate, dark chocolate or a combination of both, this essential assortment has something for everyone, from buttercreams and rich nougats, to buttery caramels. This is the box of chocolates that we received from Fannie May. I love the caramels and Jacob’s favorites are the wrapped chocolate hearts. They are housed in a beautiful box that makes this the perfect gift to give!

Loving Favorite Gifts Tower

A selection of favorite confections for your Valentine, each Loving Favorite Gifts Tower weighs 2 lbs, 9 oz and comes filled with: 4 oz Valentine Pixies, 1 lb Delights Individually Wrapped Chocolates, 5 oz Milk Truffle Hearts, 4 Milk Grahams, 4 Milk Cookies, 4 Milk Pretzels, and 4 White Pretzels. Yum! If you have multiple people on your gift list you could even split this one up and give the boxes in the tower out to separate people.

Which gift is your favorite?

Shipping Note: The website says if you order by today (2/11 at 3pm EST) you can use ground shipping and get the gift to your Valentine in time. Waited until the last minute? You can still order and choose overnight delivery on 2/13 for delivery on 2/14 or visit one of their Chicago area stores.

Chicago’s Favorite Chocolates

(Disclosure: I received a box of chocolates for review but all thoughts are my own.)

You all know I love chocolate. As a Chicagoan, I am lucky to have one of the very best chocolate companies based right here in my area- Fannie May! I can’t remember a Christmas without a box of Fannie May chocolates. My favorites include their pixies and their mint meltaways. I also enjoy their boxes of assorted chocolates.

I’ll tell you a funny story that I am extremely embarrassed to share…. when I was younger (a long time ago) we had a box of assorted chocolates in the fridge. I don’t remember how old I was but I was young enough that I couldn’t just eat as many chocolates as I wanted because they were limited to a dessert item. Well I had my favorites and then flavors I had never tried. I was in the fridge one day when I decided that I wanted to try the other flavors but didn’t want to be selfish and eat the whole piece of chocolate so I took a bite of a few of them and left the other halves in the fridge.

At the time it made sense in my head to share the other half with someone else but, as you can imagine, my dad was not very happy that I had left half-eaten chocolate in the fridge. He probably would have preferred that I just ate the whole piece. Looking back I realize now that a knife would have been a better cutting choice than my teeth. I think about that story every time I have a box of chocolates from Fannie May and it brings back memories of my childhood every time I bite into a piece of chocolate.

Along with the special memories I have of Fannie May chocolates, I think the chocolate is delicious. I took a look at their website and chose some of the gifts I think *someone* would like if you haven’t bought me them a gift yet ;)

Gift Giving With Lindt Chocolates

Every Christmas my children’s teachers get the same thing as gifts: chocolate! I figure that it’s a pretty safe gift because almost everyone loves it. One of my favorite chocolates are LINDOR truffles so I was really excited to get an assortment of them to review. They come in a variety of flavors and literally melt in your mouth.

Lindt’s special Holiday collection contains, among other items, two large gift bags filled with truffles. Each bag is ready to gift which is nice because you can save yourself some time since you don’t have to wrap it. I love the felt bag because the design and ribbon make the gift look like it cost a lot more than $25.

The bags feature some of Lindt’s top LINDOR truffle flavors including: Milk Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Extra Dark Chocolate. My favorites are the White Chocolate Truffles and Peanut Butter Truffles.  They are so delicious!

Find all of the flavors on Lindt’s website. Which flavor is your favorite?

Chocolate Soufflé {Low-Calorie Recipe}

{Recipe and image provided by BetterEats.com}

So excited to share this recipe because I LOVE chocolate! Soufflés may look like a restaurant-only dessert, but they are actually easy to make. Whip them up right after dinner and enjoy while they’re still warm from the oven. Enjoy!

Cook Time20 min
Prep Time15 min
Yields2 serv.

INGREDIENTS

3 tablespoons sugar, granulated – divided

2 ½ ounces chocolate, bitter or semi-sweet – chopped

1 large egg(s)

2 large egg white(s)

1 tablespoon cream, heavy

1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, ground

1/8 teaspoon salt

Sugar, powdered – as garnish, optional

DIRECTIONS

1.       Position rack in center of oven; preheat to 375°F. Lightly coat two 10-ounce ramekins with cooking spray; coat the insides of each with 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar.

2.       Place chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on Medium, stirring every 20 seconds, until melted, 1 to 2 minutes.

3.       Whisk egg yolk and cream in a medium bowl until combined. Whisk in the chocolate until smooth, then whisk in flour and cinnamon until incorporated.

4.       Beat egg whites and salt in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form. Beat in the remaining 2 tablespoons sugar in four additions, until stiff, glossy peaks form.

5.       Using a rubber spatula, gently fold half the beaten whites into the chocolate mixture until fairly smooth; then gently fold this combined mixture back into the remaining egg whites until no white streaks remain.

6.       Divide between the prepared ramekins and place on a baking sheet. Bake until puffed and firm to the touch, 18 to 22 minutes. Dust with confectioners’ sugar, if desired. Serve immediately.

My Little Chocolate Monster {Wordless Wednesday}

Love this picture of Lucas trying to devour a candy bar without unwrapping it first! He loves chocolate as much as his mommy :) lol

Hershey’s Holiday Candy {Prize Pack Giveaway}

Every Christmas morning when I was a child we’d go downstairs and the first thing we’d do was open our stockings to see what kind of chocolates Santa had left. I was always hoping that my stocking would be filled with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups because they are my favorite candy. I also found a lot of Hershey’s Kisses candies in my stocking. I enjoyed eating many of my chocolates while I waited for my dad to cook breakfast.

This year Hershey’s has a new product that I’m hoping “Santa” will put in my stocking. It’s called the Snap-Apart Snowman and it breaks apart into four neat pieces so it’s easy to eat {and share if you want}.

I also love the big Hershey’s kiss that looks like a Santa hat. Those big ones are always fun to put in my love’s stocking :)

Fannie May Easter Chocolate Gift Basket Review & Giveaway

Chocolate automatically comes to my mind when I think about Easter baskets so I was really excited to get an email about reviewing a basket full of candy from Fannie May and giving one away to a lucky reader!

I was sent the Happy Easter Chocolate Gift Basket from Fannie May. The yummy treats came in a pretty flowered container that can be reused as part of our Spring decor. The basket contained just a sampling of Fannie May Easter favorites, including a milk chocolate bunny, white chocolate bunny, an egg shaped tin of peanut butter buttons, an assortment of cream eggs (one of each flavor: fruit & nut, chocolate butter cream “green may,” yellow butter cream and raspberry cream), a package of mint cookie clusters, jelly bird eggs and three chocolate bunny pops.

I had a hard time deciding what to eat first because it all looked good. I ate a mint cookie cluster expecting a chocolate mint cookie but was surprised to find chocolate with cookie bits in it. It was unexpected and delicious. Next, I opened the tin egg of “peanut butter buttons”. I found chocolate and peanut butter candies that  learned in my college years were called “buckeyes”. The peanut butter was so creamy and the chocolate around it was perfect. I am also claiming the chocolate buttercream eggs to myself.

I was tempted to hide the basket and give the rest of the candies to the boys in their Easter baskets but I couldn’t help myself and instead of hiding them I gave one of the chocolate bunny pops to Jacob the second he came downstairs from nap. As a blogger I of course pulled out my phone to take a picture of him enjoying it. {How could I not include this adorable picture of my kid with a mouth full of Fannie May chocolate!?}

Halloween “BOO!” Bag With Mars Chocolates

It’s always fun to do something for other people and this weekend I got to put together a candy bag for a fellow blogger. When I signed up for this activity I was able to choose any blogger in Collective Bias‘ Social Fabric Community. I chose someone who I had the chance to meet on a blogging trip and someone that had been working so hard to make our community the best it can be. I can’t say who it is yet because I want it to be a surprise when she gets the box! :)

I headed to Walmart and found a whole aisle full of candy.

I had a hard time choosing which candy to buy. Not only was I making this bag but I wanted to pick up my candy to pass out on Halloween as well. I had my little “assistant” with me and he wanted to get some candy for himself, too.

How could I say "no"?

Once we chose our candy we picked up a few more items and then headed in search of items to make our bag. I found a cute gift bag in one of the Halloween aisles and then I wanted to find some puffy paint to decorate it so I went in the craft aisles. I found some glitter gel pens and headed to the checkout.

Once I got home I started on decorating my bag. I used Elmer’s Glitter Glue pens to outline the candy corn and words on the bag. That is all I had planned on doing but once I did so I thought it still looked a little plain. That’s when Sinisa suggested I glue some White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M’s to the bag. I thought it was a great idea so I took my half eaten candy bag and sorted out the colors and laid them out on the candy corn image on the bag. I had plenty for the white and yellow part and just enough orange ones so I got out my Elmer’s Craft Bond All-Purpose Glue and glued them down on the bag.

I thought the bag turned out great. The only problem I had was figuring out how to get the candy in the bag without any M&M’s falling off of it. I gathered up all of my candy and put it in the bag while the bag was laying down on the table and planned to ship it that way, too, so it made it to the blogger’s house intact.

The chocolate candies I chose to include were: Peanut M&M’s, Milky Way, Milk Chocolate M&M’s, Twix, and Snickers.
