Of The Earth Jewelry Review and Giveaway

With Mother’s Day coming up I’ve been checking out different “mom” jewelry. I loved Of the Earth‘s unique jewelry. They have beautiful nest necklaces and rings that can be customized by wire color, pearl color, and amount of pearls. Randee also makes initial jewelry and Verdigris Bird jewelry.

I chose to review a nest necklace with a “mother” bird and three pearls- two blue ones to represent my boys, Jacob and Lucas, and a cream colored pearl to represent Avery, Jacob’s twin I lost while pregnant. The necklace is beautiful in person…my picture of it really doesn’t do it justice!

I am excited that not only did I get to review a piece of jewelry from Of The Earth but I get to give a piece away here on my blog! One lucky winner will receive a nest ring. It would make a great sentimental piece for yourself or as a gift to a mom you know.

Villeroy & Boch Review

With Easter coming up I couldn’t wait to share these beautiful baking dishes from Villeroy & Boch with you. They are perfect for sharing a dish at Easter dinner!

I had a chance to review the Lasagne Dish from the Ceramicplus French Garden line. The thing I love most about these dishes is that Villeroy & Boch uses Ceramicplus which is exclusive to their company and makes these easy to clean. Not only that but they are all dishwasher and microwave safe which is a huge plus (I hate hand washing dishes)!

Villeroy & Boch has been around since 1748 and also offers a Gift and Bridal Registry. They also guarantee that they will never run out of a pattern or particular style. Their pattern availability pledge states that “in the event that your pattern is discontinued at some future date, we will notify you up to 12 months in advance”. This assures that you will never be left with an incomplete set of dishes.

(Disclosure: I received a piece from Villeroy & Boch to review but all thoughts are my own.)

Purex Complete with Zout Review and Giveaway

From the website: Purex® Complete with Zout® combines the proven performance of Purex detergent with the triple-enzyme stain-fighting power of Zout® pretreater. This powerful combination works to get stains out the first time, even tough stains like grass, chocolate, and tomato sauce.

My thoughts: I reviewed the Fresh Morning Burst scent detergent and thought it smelled good without being too overpowering. I put a load of laundry in the washer which included bed linens and pajamas. My toddler had decided that instead of telling me he had a dirty diaper he would just take it off… by himself… in bed. I’m sure you get my drift and can figure out the stains that covered these items. The verdict- the linens came out smelling fresh and were stain free without any pre-soaking.

I normally just buy the cheapest detergent on the shelf so I love that this detergent with stain fighter is a great price, too! ($3.49-$7.99 depending on size and retailer)

Wonderful Birthday Banner

Sinisa's Custom Birthday Banner

I just wanted to share the banner I got for Sinisa’s birthday. It was so easy to create the design online and it’s a great quality vinyl. A huge thanks to BuildASign.com for it! They also make Custom Bumper Stickers… I asked Sinisa if he would put one on his car if I made him one that advertised my blog but he said no. Guess I have to think of another birthday present for him :)

(Disclosure: I received the banner from the company free of charge but all thoughts are my own.)

Organize It Mom! Review and Giveaway

Organize It Mom! has great motivational tools for both moms and kids. As someone who likes organization and lists I’ve fallen in love with these products. In looking at the site to figure out which one I wanted to review I had a hard time deciding. There were potty training charts which would be great since we are currently potty training Jacob. Toy labels would be great for bins of toys to  help the boys see what toys go in each bin when cleaning up. There is even a grocery/menu list which would have been perfect in helping me organize my menu planning. It was a hard decision but I decided I wanted to review the Today’s Fun chart.

I love this chart because it helps Jacob (who is 2 and a half) see what is coming up next. I’ve found it especially helpful for showing Jacob when his dad will be home. I can show him the chart and say “after we finish eating snack we will play and then daddy will come home”. He likes helping move the pieces over on the chart from the “do it” to the “did it” column. Each chart comes with a few extra pieces that are blank so we could write what we need on them which was a nice addition to the product.

All products can be found on the Organize It Mom! website. Everything is really affordable, too.

EZ Sox Review and Giveaway

We are working with Jacob on putting his clothes on. He can do pants and shirts with help but has a very hard time with socks. We had a chance to try out EZ Sox, the “I can do it” sock.

EZ Sox are created with little kids in mind. The socks have little loops on the top so children can easily pull the sock up over their foot. The socks come in plain colors and some have animal faces. The animal faces show children which side is up. They also feature non-skid bottoms.

Jacob putting on his socks.

Jacob is only two years old so to help  him I put the  sock on his toes and he pulled them on. A huge plus of these socks for us is that they are seamless. Jake was recently diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder which causes him to be picky about what he wears so he normally takes his socks off within a short time of having them on. This time though? He left his socks on all day long! I was very impressed by these socks and will be purchasing more for him.

BUY THEM:

EZ Sox are available for sale on their website. They also offer free shipping on orders of $40 or more!

WIN THEM:

One reader will win a pair of their choice of EZ Sox.

Zippies: “Pals That Hang Around” Review and Giveaway

I’ll be honest… when I first heard of Zippies I had no idea what they were. I looked them up online and thought they would be fun to review but had no idea how much Jacob would love them (he can’t pronounce his z’s so he calls them his “bippies”). Zippies are hanging character tags that can be used for identification purposes. The boys loved to just sort through all of the characters. They have space on the back to write on so they can be used for many things. We will use them for identifying whose bag is whose when they go to Grandma’s and will hang them from water bottles so we can easily tell which ones belong to us. Here are some suggested uses for Zippies:

Zippies can be purchased online or in specialty retailers (http://shop.zippiesfun.com/). You can also enter here on Making Time For Mommy to win some!

Lean Cuisine and Skinny Cow Review #31days

One of my goals in 2011 is to work towards a healthier lifestyle. Exercising, eating healthier foods, and drinking less soda and more water are all part of my plan. I recently headed to Walmart to look at some frozen dinner options since I normally eat meals alone.

I bought a variety of Lean Cuisine entrees and snacks and a Skinny Cow dessert. I wanted to share my thoughts on them  in case any of you are looking for quick, delicious tasting foods for yourself.

BBQ-Recipe Chicken Pizza

I normally don’t buy the single serving boxed pizzas because I find that they are normally soggy. This flavor sounded so good so I bought it anyways. I loved that the pizza had plenty of cheese, chicken, and sauce. I made mine in the microwave and found the crust to be cooked just right. The flavor was wonderful also. I would definitely try these pizzas again (maybe the Spinach and Mushroom Pizza- Deep Dish?)

Asiago Cheese Tortelloni

“Asiago cheese and caramelized onion stuffed tortelloni with tomatoes, yellow and green zucchini and yellow carrots in a tomato vodka sauce.” Doesn’t that make your mouth water? This was one of the meals that steams fresh in a microwave and then you take it out, shake the bag, and your meal is ready to eat. I loved the flavor of this entree. I also loved that the vegetables were crunchy.

Spring Rolls

There are three kinds of Spring Rolls but I tried the Fajita-Style Chicken ones and the Garlic Chicken ones. They can be cooked in the microwave or oven. Honestly, I like them baked in the oven best but they taste just as good cooked in the microwave (though just not as crunchy). My favorite of the two was the Fajita-Style Chicken ones. They were so good I had to go back to the store  and get more! They are filling and are great for a snack or as a side (I paired mine with a salad). You can also dip them in something or eat them plain. I tried the Fajita ones with both sour cream and ranch dressing.

Cookies 'N Cream Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches

These Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches were great! I had only tried the Vanilla ones before so I was excited to try the Cookies ‘N Cream flavor. They were delicious! The best part was that they are only 150 calories each!

This is only a small sampling of the meals, snacks, and desserts that Lean Cuisine and Skinny Cow offer. View my Whrrl story to find out more about my shopping trip and my opinions on the products I tried.

I’m wondering, which is your favorite Lean Cuisine product? Let me know which one you think I should try next!

Purex Complete Crystals Softener Review and Giveaway

As a Purex Insider, I had the chance to review the Purex Complete Crystals Softener. I normally don’t use fabric softener because I always forget to add it during the wash but my favorite part about these crystals is that they can be added at the beginning of the wash! Going in at the beginning of the wash means the crystals spend more time with your clothes so your clothes smell fresher for longer.

The crystals come in three scents: Fresh Spring Waters , Lavender Blossom , and  Tropical Splash. I tried the Fresh Spring Waters scent and loved the smell and a few days after washing my towels they still smell fresh.

Some more benefits of the Purex Complete Crystals Softener according to the site are that it has 92% natural ingredients and is free of oil-based softening ingredients. It also preserves the flame retardant benefits of your children’s clothes and keeps your white clothing from yellowing and graying.

Want to try it for yourself? You can buy it at Walmart or other local retailers or you could enter to win some here!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, many of us are looking to reconnect with our significant others and I love this card game, Goodnight Sweetheart- Couple’s Edition. Their website says, “2 cards…2 people…2 minutes… Sweet, FUN, adorable!!!!  Create your “better together” today.  A card each before bed….or play it in its longer version for a DATE NIGHT that will become your favorite.”

There are “sweetheart cards”, “action cards”, “sharing cards” and “wild cards” for couples to choose from. Here are a couple of samples of what’s on the cards:

Splendid Littles For Target Review and a Target Giveaway

Target is my favorite store so when I had the chance to do a review of their new line, Splendid Littles, and give away a Target giftcard to one of my readers I jumped at it. I was sent a whole box of goodies from Target and BabyCenter and am excited to share the line with you. Here are a few of my favorite items from the line:

My first thoughts on these clothes when I saw them were that they were fun and modern. I loved the bright colors and how soft they were, too. Jacob, my two year old, is starting to get pickier with his clothing and pulls and chews on it when something is uncomfortable and he wore one of the Splendid Littles hoodies without a problem.

Arctic Ease Review and Giveaway

I recently had  a chance to try out the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy (cold therapy) wraps. The packaging said they were suitable for “sprains, repetitive motion injuries, the pain associated with arthritis, minor burns, bruises, and muscle cramps”. I have a lot of pain in my hands (hopefully just from using the computer too much and not early arthritis) so I thought these would be great for that.

According to the website-

“Arctic Ease wraps and pads are an incredibly simple but effective alternative to traditional cold therapy. They absorb heat energy from the body to cool the covered area. The absorbed heat is then lost to evaporation, which allows for hours of targeted cold therapy. Arctic Ease is ready to use right out of the package — no refrigeration is necessary. And mobility isn’t limited since Arctic Ease conforms to the affected area without the need for clips or tape. Arctic Ease is reusable, odorless and environmentally friendly.”

My thoughts-

I tried one of the pads on my left hand. The pads felt wet and rubbery but left my hands dry. Once placed on my skin and pressed on my hand, my skin felt cool. I left the pad on for 20 minutes without any discomfort and was able to perform tasks without a problem (much different than if I had been using an ice pack). The pain was relieved (and still 30 minutes later as I’m typing I am without pain in my hand).

The wraps and pads are sold at popular pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS, as well as grocery store chains like Jewel-Osco and Cub Foods. The wraps retail for $11.99 and the pads are $8.99.

GIVEAWAY

One winner will receive three Arctic Ease wraps and a t-shirt. (open to US readers only)

Update 1/23: Sponsor has changed this giveaway to 5 Arctic Ease wraps.

O Cedar ProMist Dry Or Wet Cleaning System

I bought a new mop yesterday! I love it. It’s the O Cedar ProMist Dry or Wet Cleaning System.

Look at how dirty that thing is! Cleaned all the muddy footprints by the door!

What I love about this mop: it doesn’t need to be “charged”, I can use my own floor cleaner solution, and the pads can be removed for easy washing. I could even buy one of the super cute crochet mop covers my friend Jen makes :)

If you want to find out more you can view my Whrrl story here.

Tassimo Home Brewing System Review and Giveaway

I love going out for coffee but it gets to be expensive so I was excited when Tassimo asked me to review their T20 Home Brewing System.

I love that the Tassimo has accessory kits to personalize the brewer. The company sent me red but they have other color options as well.

Isn’t that fun? Adds a shot of color to my otherwise neutral colored kitchen. The Tassimo T20 brews over 40 varities of hot and cold beverages including coffee, chai latte, cappucino, tea and more. It’s compact in size and there is zero cleanup after making something to drink.

I tried the Starbucks® Cappuccino Primo and added some chocolate syrup and Truvia sweetener and it was a yummy afternoon treat. Searching their site I found some other drinks I’d like to try including the Gevalia Caramel Latte Macchiato and the Gevalia Sweet & Creamy Iced Coffee. They also have a recipe page on the website.

Dinosaur Train on PBS

Jacob is a HUGE fan of Dinosaur Train on PBS. A new episode of the show aired on December 6th but in case you missed it there are encore presentations scheduled for December 20th and 24th.

In “Big Stomping Dinosaur Feet; “Hornucopia, Daphne, a Daspletosaurus shows Buddy how to make stomping a fun dance instead of a temper tantrum. At the Big Pond, Tank introduces the Pteranodon family to his friend, Stacie Styracosaurus, a fellow Ceratopsian with a crown of elaborate horns on her head.

The episode is also one of eight fun and educational adventures available on the DINOSAURS IN THE SNOW DVD from PBS KIDS and Paramount Home Entertainment, in which Buddy travels to the North Pole, explores nocturnal animals, becomes a detective, celebrates his birthday and more! The DVD also features an interactive game, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and parent information. SRP: $14.99.

In DINOSAUR TRAIN, young viewers join Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons on whimsical adventures through prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans as they unearth basic concepts in natural science, natural history and paleontology. The Dinosaur Train is a colorful locomotive, customized to accommodate all kinds of dinosaurs, and it has the ability to visit the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous worlds, while the Train’s Conductor, a knowledgeable Troodon, provides passengers with fascinating facts along the way.

***

Jacob enjoyed watching the show. He loves trains and is getting into dinosaurs and I think that combining two childhood favorites was a great idea on behalf of the shows creator. Dinosaur Train is animated but also has live-action parts featuring a paleontologist who brings to life the dinosaurs featured in the show. I like how he teaches the children the names of the dinosaurs too and gives them a chance to practice saying them (it’s great for moms to practice, too!) I love shows that educate my children while entertaining them and this is definitely one of those shows.

If your child loves DInosaur Train then check out our review of the Dinosaur Train All Aboard! Game here.

Kolcraft Review and Giveaway

I am happy to announce that I have been accepted into the Kolcraft Moms review program. What does this mean? It means I will share products with you twice yearly and it means you will have a chance to win some awesome Kolcraft products!

In September we were blessed to receive a Contours Options II Tandem double stroller. I was very excited about this because for the past 14 months I had been using a hand me down stroller so it was nice to have a new one to use.

The above picture is the stroller straight out of the box. I found the directions pretty easy to understand and the stroller easy to put together. It only took about half an hour for me to set it up and only required a screwdriver which was a tool that is easily accessible. My first thoughts when the stroller was put together were “It’s beautiful!” and “It’s huge!”

The next day we took the stroller out for our first walk and I “christened” our brand new stroller with half a can of Dr. Pepper. I was happy to see that it wiped off easily and my clumsiness didn’t stain our stroller. We went for a few more family walks and on one of them Lucas even fell asleep! Must be a comfortable ride!

After using the stroller for a few weeks I’d like to share what I think about this stroller:

What I LOVE:

*This stroller can be used SIX different ways! My boys can face each other, both face me, both face towards the front, or each face different directions. I can also use it with just one seat which will be great for day long outings when Jacob gets older because we can put Lucas in the seat, Jacob can walk, and we can put a cooler and bags in the back of the stroller.

*Two cupholders in the parent tray- Great for when both Sinisa and I are out with the boys. Before, one of us always had to carry our drink.

*Both seats recline- Our old stroller had this feature but it was impossible for the front seat to recline with a child in the backseat but since the seats rotate this is no longer a problem for us.

*Adjustable canopies- I like that the canopies can be adjusted so as the child gets taller the canopy can be raised higher. I only wish Jacob would use the canopy!

*Children’s cupholders- In our old stroller both child trays had cupholders but none of their cups actually fit in the cupholders so they were pointless. The Kolcraft stroller has large cupholders that fit all of our sippy cups AND they can be removed which is a great feature.

*Large basket underneath- This is an awesome feature! I love that there is plenty of room for everything that our family of four need to bring with us on outings.

I would only change two features about this stroller. I would add child trays for snacks. My children are getting older so they can just hold baggies or containers of snacks so it’s not that big of a deal anymore but may be for those with younger children. I also wish that I did not have to take off the seats to close the stroller when putting it in my trunk but to me the other features of the stroller make it worth it.

GIVEAWAY:

One reader will win a Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller.

Baby Einstein Discovery Kits Review and Giveaway

My boys and I recently had the opportunity to review a few of the new Baby Einstein Discovery Kits. Having viewed the videos before with children but never watching them with my own boys I wondered how they would like them and how the items in the kit would work together.

I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and though these kits are geared towards children under 18 months, Jacob (my oldest) enjoyed them as well. He pointed out items he knew and told me what they were and especially enjoyed the one with the colors since we are currently working on identifying colors.

My favorite part about the kits is what the chart above shows. Each kit contains a DVD, a book, and a CD. I love that the boys can watch the movie while I get some household chores done, listen to the CD while they are riding in the car, and then I can read the book to them at night. The DVDs use bright colors and interesting characters so they are fun for children and entertaining at the same time. All children learn differently so having multiple ways for them to learn the material is great.

GIVEAWAY:

I have a set of 3 Discovery Kits to give to one lucky reader.

HOW TO ENTER (leave a comment for each one):

A couple of months ago our family discovered the PBS show, Dinosaur Train, and Jacob loves it. We recently reviewed the Dinosaur Train All Aboard! game and just the box alone got Jacob excited.

What the company says: In the Dinosaur Train All Aboard! game, a game that is fun for the entire family, players choose a character – Buddy, Tiny, Shiny, Don, Cory, Tank or Mr. Conductor – and try to move the fastest along the tracks.  Players travel through the three dinosaur eras: Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.  Special Stopwatch spaces advance players closer to the nest, while Dinosaur Crossing spaces send them back.  The first player to reach the nest area in the center of the board wins. For 2 to 6 players ages 4+; SRP $12.00.

What our family thinks: Jacob and I have “played” this game many times since we received it for review. I use the term “play” loosely because Jacob, at the age of two and a half, does not yet understand the rules of the game. He enjoys playing with the little dinosaur pieces and lining them up. He also likes to spin the arrow on the spinner. I take my turns and count aloud how many spots I move the dinosaur and Jacob counts a little, too. The game says for ages four and up but I think that a three year would be able to play correctly and children as young as two would enjoy it (though there are small pieces so they need to be supervised).

More about the TV show: DINOSAUR TRAIN embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains. This top-rated, award-winning series, which airs on PBS KIDS®, encourages basic scientific thinking skills as the audience learns about life science, natural history and paleontology. The stars of DINOSAUR TRAIN are Buddy, an adorable preschool age Tyrannosaurus rex, and his adoptive Pteranodon family who board the DINOSAUR TRAIN to embark on adventures to prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans. In season one of the series children were introduced to over 40 types of dinosaurs, providing an excellent opportunity to learn and now to collect their favorite dinosaurs. An all-new season of the hit TV series is currently in production with new episodes slated to premiere on PBS KIDS ® in fall 2011.

Pure Silk Review

When I hear the name “Barbasol” my mind automatically goes to the men’s shaving cream that has been around for years. Recently I discovered that they made a line of shaving creams for women. Pure Silk, according to their website, “isn’t just a guys shaving cream repackaged in pink, it’s a line of deliciously scented shave creams with special, all-natural ingredients”. The following products are available:

I had a chance to review the Pure Silk with Aloe Moisturizing shave cream in the coconut and oat flour scent. I liked that the scent was not that noticeable. I felt the shave cream lathered well and was soft like silk (must be where they got the name!) I also like that the can will not rust and create rust rings on my shower ledge.

Halls Cough Drops Review and Giveaway

Last winter my family was continuously sick so I jumped at the chance to do a review of HALLS cough drops. We were sent the HALLS Sugar Free Honey-Lemon drops and the HALLS vapor action drops in cherry flavor.

During the cold and flu season a pack of Halls can always be found in Sinisa’s coat pocket and by our bathroom sink. He loves HALLS products and believes they are “fast and reliable” (his exact words).

I am more of a candy-like cough drop girl and don’t like anything that tastes too much like medicine. Thankfully I found HALLS Breezers which are a perfect cough drop for me.

While I was on the HALLS website I found a great guide that helps you figure out which cough drops would be best for you and your throat. I didn’t realize there were so many different ones to choose from!

GIVEAWAY:

TWO Making Time For Mommy readers will each win TEN (10) HALLS sticks

Glade Scented Oil Candle and Decorative Glass Holder Review

Recently I had the chance to try Glade’s new line of scented oil candles These candles are each in their own decorative glass holders. I like how the holders are refillable so that if I find a design I really like I can keep it and just buy the refills. I received the lavender & vanilla one and I love how the whole room was filled with the scent. Two and a half hours in and my candle was still burning. The packaging says that each refill burns for approximately two to three hours.

In September and October, Glade held a contest asking people to design candle holders. A winner will not be announced until 2011 but you can check out their design gallery to see the contestant’s designs and give a “thumbs up” to your favorite one. Below is the one I created:

P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Review and Giveaway

Date nights out are rare since I’ve become a parent. Normally Sinisa and I spend our date nights in watching movies or DVR’d shows while eating dinner (and of course dessert!) We recently had the chance to try a meal from the new P.F. Chang’s Home Menu line of frozen meals. I love the restaurant so I wanted to see if the frozen meals available tasted like the meals I can get when I eat out.

While at the store I chose the Shanghai Style Beef. All of the meals were on sale for considerably less than we would have spent at the restaurant. It was easy to make on the stovetop, taking less than 15 minutes, and tasted delicious. Sinisa described it as “flavorful and authentic.” We did add rice to create a complete meal. This package (with the additional rice) created three servings so there was a leftover lunch for me.

GIVEAWAY:

One Making Time For Mommy reader will get to try out a P.F. Chang’s Home Menu meal.

With winter comes dry skin and the return of eczema so when I was contacted about reviewing Aquaphor products and offering a giveaway to my readers I said “yes, please!” I have used Aquaphor healing ointment in the tub for Jacob’s eczema in the past and this summer had a chance to try out their Lip Repair product. Sandlot Slugger Nintendo DS Game Review

(This is a review by Liz from Making Time For Mommy’s Review Team)

This review is for the Nintendo DS game Backyard Sports Sandlot Slugger. The game is rated E for everyone.

There are varying skill levels, a variety of teams you can choose from, if you want a mercy rule and choice to play at Home or an away game.

I really liked how easy the game was to play and the instructional aspect included with the game. Most moves were allowed by using your stylus from your DS, however you used the button pad to select the type of pitch you wanted to throw when pitching.

The graphics are clear and the sound is just right for the level of game produced. I secretly tried to play this game on my own, however my four year old daughter caught me and wanted to play as well. To my surprise she figured out how to pitch and swing within 2 tries. This truly is a game for all ages to enjoy!

Lulu Photobook Review and Giveaway

Hands-down my mom’s favorite items to receive as a gift are those with pictures of her grandchildren on them. When I had the chance to review a photo book for Lulu.com I knew it would be the perfect gift for my mom’s birthday. I spent hours gathering pictures online of my mom with her four grandchildren and then I used Lulu’s studio to create a custom hardcover book.

Lulu’s studio was easy to use. Once I chose my book size I chose a theme for the book (which was just the background design of the pages). The pages were already designed but I loved that I could change the layout of them easily.

Once I inserted the pictures and had the layout perfectly I then added text to some of the pages. Afterwards, I previewed my book and published it.

Here are some pictures of the final product:

The cover

Page with picture and text

The book turned out beautifully! It looked professionally bound and was printed on high quality photo paper. I really loved that I could completely customize the design and layout and easily switch pictures around while I made it. Another great feature about Lulu.com is that people can create a book and then sell it on Lulu.com.

SMEAD Products Review

I love organizing products so I was very happy when the women of Get Buttoned Up asked me to review some. When I first received the SMEAD office filing products in the mail to review I was thinking to myself what is there to say about file folders and manila folders that hasn’t already been said? Then I tried them and decided I will never buy another brand of folders again.

TUFF® Hanging Folder with Easy Slide™ Tab

The website says: “Seven times stronger than the leading competitor’s hanging folder*, TUFF® Hanging Folders are the Gold Standard for hanging folders. The specially designed reinforced rods are 40% stronger to resist bending and paper tearing. The heavy-duty oversized tabs easily slide and secure into the position you choose. Replaceable white tab inserts included.”

My review: I believe the company when they say that these folders are seven times stronger. Not only were the actual folders thicker than normal but the tabs were made of a thick plastic. The white tab insert stayed in place better than other folders I’ve tried previously. I also love how the tab on top of the folder can be moved easily yet will not fall off of the folder.

SuperTab® Oversized-Tab Folders

The website says: “Get nearly double the labeling area of standard folders – so you can use larger text or more lines of description. Fits any vertical or lateral filing system.”

My review: I love that the tabs on these file folders are so large. I hate when I have to squeeze in a lot of words on one tiny tab and half the time end up writing so low that some of the words are hidden when the folder is closed.

The perfect system

(Disclosure: I was sent these products to review and compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.)

SoyJoy Review and Cookbook Giveaway

While in New York for BlogHer I attended a SoyJoy sponsored brunch. I wrote about it on ShePosts here.

Michele, from my review team, tried some of the SoyJoy bars and here is what she had to say about them:

“L.O.V.E, I am in love! I am in love with the tastiest little bar chocked full of good for you things…SoyJoy! That’s right, SoyJoy. Not only does SoyJoy use U.S. grown non-GMO soy for these delish bars, but they made sure they were only using whole soy, real fruit, they are gluten free, low GI, and have no trans fat.

I have to be honest…I have never met a SoyJoy bar I didn’t like. I love that they make a great snack choice for Mr. Not So Big as well as myself. They are convenient (just throw then in your purse or bag), have protein, and have real fruit pieces (you can actually see them), along with great flavors. For the purpose of this review, I was given blueberry, strawberry, and their newest flavor, banana. Blueberry and strawberry certainly top my list of yummy and the banana was my little guy’s fav. SoyJoy comes in 6 flavors, Banana, Blueberry, Strawberry, Berry, Mango Coconut, and Apple Walnut.

At this point you may be wondering “Where can I get my hands on these delish bars too?” If you check out their website; you will be able to locate a store near you that carries them. Don’t worry, I’ll leave a few for you, I won’t shelf clear ;) Having said all this, I feel as though I should point out that there are a few people that maybe do not have the same love for SoyJoy as I do. Give SoyJoy a chance and make your own determination.”

Spinbrush- My Way Review

(Review by Liz of Making Time For Mommy’s Product Review Team)

The Spinbrush My Way is an electric toothbrush made for children. I would recommend the usage of the brush for children ages 3-12 based on it’s compact size and appeal.

The toothbrush comes loaded with a variety of stickers to decorate your toothbrush and 2 AA batteries. The only area of difficulty we encountered was removing the sticker from the backing. Even for the tiniest fingers it was difficult and adhered to your fingers rather quickly. This however is a plus because the stickers cling quickly to the toothbrush and stay on without any difficulty after many uses.

As we applied the stickers we realized that there were many fun stickers and not enough space left on the toothbrush itself, which is a good thing. My daughter really enjoyed making her own toothbrush.

The finished product has had many uses, a few tumbles here and there with no problems, the batteries have held up and toothpaste is easy to apply and remove with a quick rinse under the faucet. A child can operate the toothbrush with ease by moving the jewel into the on position, which remains on, and will bring many excited tooth brushing sessions to come.

(Disclosure: We received this product for free in exchange for our honest opinions about it.)

Ziploc Review and Giveaway

Ziploc bags have hundreds of uses. Just this week I used them to store Jacob’s partially eaten sandwich, puzzle pieces, m&m’s, and half of a tomato. So many uses means that my family goes through boxes of Ziploc bags monthly so I was excited when I had the chance to review some Ziploc products.

I reviewed the Ziploc brand storage bags with the smart zip seal, Ziploc brand freezer slider bags, Ziploc brand sandwich bags, and the Ziploc brand smart snap containers. I had used the sandwich bags and the containers before but not the other two products.

Ziploc slider bags with expandable bottoms

I loved the Ziploc slider bags. First of all, it was great knowing that the bag was actually closed because it had a zipper on it and I knew when it was all the way to the left the bag was properly closed. The bags had a space to write on them which is helpful for labeling what is in the bag or when the food in the bag was made. My favorite part about this bag though was the expandable bottom. I think that it’s a great concept and helps the bags stand up so that the items don’t fall out of the bag when it’s open.

Giveaway:

One reader will win a set of Ziploc products-

*Ziploc Brand Storage Bags with the Smart Zip Seal

*Ziploc Brand Freezer Slider Bags

*Ziploc Brand Smart Snap Containers

CardMobili.com Review

I recently had the chance to review CardMobili.com and their application for the Blackberry phone. CardMobili is a unique application that allows users to store their loyalty cards on their cell phones instead of in their wallets. CardMobili supports iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android, Blackberry and JAVA cellphones, such as Nokia, LG, Samsung and Motorola. Here are some of the key features of the CardMobili application:

Using CardMobili was pretty easy. First thing I did was sign up for an account at CardMobili.com.  Next I added my reward cards on the website. I started off adding four cards: ToysRUs, Jewel-Osco (a grocery store), Best Buy, and Speedway (a gas station). All four of these cards were in the CardMobili network but cards that aren’t already in the system can be added in, too. I have not had the chance to try this application at a store yet but to use this application all someone has to do is show their phone at the store and the cashier scans the barcode that is on your phone.

Overall, I love the concept of this FREE site. Many times I have forgotten my card and they usually will take my phone number and look it up. Lately though when I have gone to the grocery store the cashiers have given me a hard time about me not having my card and having to look it up for me. It will be great having this application on my phone so that I always have my reward cards when I need them.

(This is a sponsored post written by me as part of a Team Inexpensively tour, but all opinions are 100% mine.)

My Purple Toes Children’s Book Review and Giveaway

My Purple Toes is a creative children’s board book written for children under eight-years-old that tells a story about a father’s experience navigating life with purple painted toenails. From mom to the kids to their dog, everyone reacts differently to dad’s purple toes showing their surprise, embarrassment, and even laughter.

Throughout the book, children can look for dad’s toes in various environments and also find a friendly frog with purple toes that hides on each page. In addition to entertaining, “My Purple Toes” teaches a simple, yet relevant lesson about the importance of acceptance, enjoying life and being different.

“My Purple Toes” features cheerful, imaginative illustrations by artist Tate Nation on its board-style book, offering durability ideal for young children. “My Purple Toes” can be purchased online for $10.99. (above text taken from website)

*****

I read this book to my two year old, Jacob. Though I’m pretty sure he did not “get” the lesson of the story he still enjoyed listening to mommy read it. We pointed out the toes on each page and then I’d ask “where are Jacob’s toes?” and “where are mommy’s toes?” He is at the age where he loves identifying body parts so he really enjoyed doing that.

As a mom I loved the lessons that the book taught which are being accepting of everyone, enjoying life to it’s fullest, and letting children know that it’s ok to be different and unique. I think those are really important lessons to teach children at a young age.

I was also happy to see that a portion of the proceeds from each book supports a charity called Soles4Souls, which collects and distributes shoes at no cost to people in need.

One person will win this review copy of My Purple Toes

Things I Love Thursday: Storkie.com

I recently had the chance to review two products from Storkie Express, Inc. Storkie.com helps you create a variety of cards and announcements like baby birth announcements, birthday invitations, first birthday invitations, and Christmas cards. I was going to create birthday invitations for my boys but then decided instead to do labels for my children’s items and playdate invitations.

I loved how easy it was to create items at Storkie.com using iDesign to customize the products just how I wanted them. I like to visualize things and experiment with different wording and layouts so I loved that I could move things around until I had things just how I wanted them.

Another things I like about Storkie is that they will send the cards or announcements directly to people for you. As a busy mom this saves me from having to put everything in envelopes, stamp the envelopes, address the envelopes and find time to get to the post office to drop them off. They also have fast turnaround times. If you create something before noon on a business day the product is printed and shipped the next day! Great for people who wait until right before the Holidays to send cards (not that I would know anything about that!)

Here are the labels I made for Jake and Luke’s books and toys. I created them using address labels and then instead of putting my name and address I put the wording I wanted to:

I also made generic playdate invitations by leaving the date and time blank. I included my address at the bottom of the cards.

Overall, I love storkie.com and plan to use their service again in the future. I loved that I had the ability to customize the items and the fast turnaround on orders. The customer service I received from the company was fantastic. The quality of the items I received was great and they were sent in a nice package wrapped in tissue paper so they definitely get points for presentation.

Hope you will check them out!

(Disclosure: I was given the items that I reviewed at no cost to me in exchange for my honest opinion about the company and the products.)

Digital Photo Keychain Review and Giveaway

I had the opportunity to review a digital photo key chain from Wholesale Keychain.com. The website had a wide variety of key chains such as game key chains, heart keyrings, and Disney key chains.

The photo key chain that I reviewed has the capability of holding up to 99 pictures which is a great way of showing off all of the ones you love. It’s pretty reasonably priced too at $14.99. Another thing that I like about this key chain is that for a little more you can get it engraved. I had mine engraved with “Mommy of Jacob & Lucas”.

Win one of your very own:

One reader will win a digital photo keychain engraved with the wording of their choice

How to enter (do any of the following for one entry each):

1. Leave a comment telling me who you would get this keychain for

The Rattles Review And Giveaway

The Rattles debut CD came out on Tuesday and I wanted to share it with you all. The Rattles are a family friendly band that both children and parents can enjoy together. According to their press release, their music is “working in the classic traditions of The Beatles, Moxy Fruvous, The Monkees, and They Might Be Giants“. Check out the YouTube video below:

Jacob (my 2 year old) enjoyed dancing around our living room while he listened to the music. He also seemed to like the characters as he spent a lot of time looking at the CD insert.

The Rattles website has more information about the band. It also includes resources for children (like coloring pages) and for parents (like a list of skills the music helps develop).

Giveaway:

One Making Time For Mommy reader will win a copy of the Rattles debut CD.

How to enter:

Leave a comment below telling me who you think would enjoy this CD.

Executive Gift Shoppe Review

I recently received a product to review from the Executive Gift Shoppe website. I had a choice of products I could order but chose to review their Cherrywood Desktop Organizer because I am constantly trying to organize myself.

I loved the color of the item and the quality of the wood. The organizer has four compartments for letters and note pads and also two small drawers for paperclips, stamps, or any other little items. This item can also be engraved (for free!) which is perfect if this item is being given as a gift.

Some other items I like from the website are the travel duffel bag with side pockets (perfect for the golfer in your life), the personalized pewter train bank, and this personalized Rawling’s mini baseball bat.

Costume Supercenter Review

It’s still Summer but I’ve been thinking about Fall, and more specifically Halloween. I love to dress my boys up to go Trick-or-Treating and always look for the perfect costume at a reasonable price.

This year I searched Costume Supercenter‘s website and found a wide variety of costume choices for both children and adults. I love that the site was split into categories and easy to search for specific products. I looked through the selection of infant and toddler costumes and chose the Elite Lil’ Lion costume for my oldest child.

When the costume arrived I was very happy with the quality. The costume features a zippered bodysuit, attached tail with bow, booties and a hood with ears and plush mane.

I first tried the costume on my oldest toddler, Jacob, who I had chosen it for but he would not let me put the hood on. I then tried to put the costume on my youngest, Lucas, and he let me put the hood on but was soon trying to take it off. It’s a very warm costume so it will be perfect for the end of October but wasn’t so comfortable to wear in the August heat so I could get pictures.

Overall, Costume Supercenter has a great selection of quality costumes. Some other cute ones that I saw for infants and toddlers on the site were the Infant Lil Flower Costume and the Rompin Roo Costume.

I’ve Found A Toddler Cup That Doesn’t Leak!!!

I recently had the chance to try a couple items from the Tommee Tippee “explora” collection. I reviewed the easi-mat, the weaning bowls, and the water bottle. The line also includes food pots and heat sensing spoons.

Here's a picture of the full-line that is available (also available in pink)

What I love about this line is it truly reduces the amount of mess that I have to clean up. The easi-mat holds the bowls into place so it can’t be thrown onto the ground (something my boys love to do). They still drop food on the floor but handfuls of food dropped on the floor is definitely easier to clean up than a bowlful of food that is splattered all over. It worked great for Lucas (my one year old) and it was nice to finally give him a bowl that I didn’t have to sit there and hold down. The one flaw that I found in this line is that the easi-mat just gives me one more thing to clean. I really wish that the bowls had suction cups on the bottom of each one instead.

My very favorite item is the “truly spill proof water bottle”. When I saw the words “truly spill proof” I thought to myself, “yeah right. Not for my kids!” because somehow my children manage to find a way to make all of their cups leak. I put this one to the “mommy” test. I shook it as vigorously as I could in all directions and not a drop came out of it. I then tested for myself how easy it was to “sip” from. Based on my testing, I think both my 13 and 25 month olds can both drink from it (though it’s labeled 18+ months). The cup is currently full of water and in my son’s crib and I am confident it will not leak all over.

All of the Tommee Tippee “explora” items are BPA free and are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer-safe. This line of products can be found at Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores and also online at BabiesRUs.com.

(Disclosure: These products were given to me, as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club Review Team, by Tommee Tippee. All thoughts are my own.)

Covergirl Makeup Master (& Giveaway)

I was so excited when I got the chance to work with Covergirl on their Makeup Master campaign. I figured I would get a couple items in the mail but instead the generous folks at Covergirl sent me a huge box of stuff (literally it was almost as tall as my waist)! I opened it up to discover my own little makeup studio.

Covergirl sent me three kits to create different smoky eye looks. There was a natural look, a glam look, and a bold look. Each look uses three products: the SmokyShadow Blast, the Exact Liquid Line, and the LashBlast Mascara.

I normally go for a more natural look but my teenage sister wanted to try the “bold” look.  It was the first time I had applied makeup to someone else but I think I did a pretty good job. What do you think?

Left eye- "bold" smoky eye, Right eye- no makeup

"Bold" smoky look with closed eyelid

Find out lots more, watch videos, hear what others have to say and share your Smoky Eye Look at www.smokyeyelook.com and on the Makeup Master Facebook page.

(Not So) Wordless Wednesday- Riding Bikes

Lucas tries to ride a tricycle

Jacob rides his tricycle with his new Thomas helmet

Tailwags "owl" helmet cover

We normally kept the tricycle in the back yard because we didn’t have a helmet for the boys to wear in order for them to ride it on the sidewalk. We were at Target the other day and when we saw the Thomas the Tank Engine helmet we just had to get it for Jacob our train lover so that he could finally learn how to ride the tricycle on a flat surface.

Tail Wags also sent us a helmet cover to review. The owl was my favorite one and I love that it’s fleece so when it’s colder outside Jacob’s head will stay nice and toasty. They also just came out with helmets made out of lightweight lycra fabric which are perfect for the warmer months. Here are a couple of my favorite ones:

Goldfish helmet cover

Ladybug helmet cover

If you would like to purchase a helmet cover you can do so in select specialty shops or order online. If you make a purchase using their website you can use the code: “mommy” for 10% off (through July 21, 2010).

(Disclosure: I was provided a helmet cover to review from Tail Wags and they are offering the discount to my readers. I am not affiliated with this company and do not make any profit from sales of the Tail Wags helmet covers.)

Inspired Gifts Review and Giveaway

I love taking pictures so I was thrilled when Inspired Gifts agreed to let me review one of their products. Inspired Gifts makes wonderful photo products. Here is a list of some of what you can create:

  • Gift books
  • Baby/Child Books
  • Journals
  • Guest Books
  • Playing Cards
  • Canvas Prints
  • Dry Erase Boards
  • Posters
  • Bookmarks
  • Greeting Cards
  • Announcements
  • Calendars

You can also make day planners which is what I chose to review. I wanted a planner to keep track of all my blog posts and when all of my giveaways ended and I am happy to do so while I look at pictures of my family.

Here is what the Inspired Gifts website says about their day planners: “We know life’s daily tasks can sometimes be a chore, but you can make scheduling less stressful with a photo-filled day planner designed by you. Planners are spiral-bound and available in two sizes to accommodate full days and people on the go. You bring the photos, and we’ll give you the space to lay out your year in as much detail as you need. Add as many custom messages as you like to be sure you never again forget an important birthday or anniversary. Perhaps you know someone who might welcome a little help in the organization department? Planners also make great gifts.”

The day planner itself was pretty easy to make once I got the hang of it. Once you choose the pictures you want in the planner you can either decide what page you want each picture on or you can let the software place the pictures for you.

Here are my two tips on creating your own personalized items using Inspired Gifts and their software:

1) Create an account before you do anything else! I made the mistake of not doing so and lost all of my work because I accidentally exited the screen and it wasn’t saved anywhere. (If you have an account the pictures are saved.)

2) Keep in mind the product you are creating and how the pictures would look in the space that you have. I picked all of my pictures without even considering that the album I was doing was vertical. If a picture was horizontal and could be cropped it worked fine but any picture too wide didn’t work. They give you a choice so you could choose to have your pictures horizontal and then you would be fine but because I chose vertical it was a problem.

Here are a few pictures of my finished day planner:
