Fun In The Sun (And A Giveaway)

Jacob and Lucas recently had a playdate with their cousins, Camden and Maddie. They spent most of the time outside in the sun.

As you can see, all four children are very fair skinned. It’s really important for them to wear sunscreen when they are in the sun like that. Usually we just use a child lotion sunscreen and my boys fight with me to put it on and wiggle around so I end up missing spots or they walk around looking like ghosts because I don’t rub it in all the way. That won’t be a problem anymore with this new sunscreen we received.

KINeSYS sent me some sunscreen to review. I used it the other day and love it. The sunscreen that they make is easy to apply because it can be sprayed on. It comes either unscented or scented (the one I tried was mango scented- yummy).

Here’s a little bit more about the sunscreen from the flyer that came with it:

  • UVA/UVB protection with Parsol 1789
  • Oil-free/ Alcohol-free/PABA-free
  • Preservative-free
  • Very water-resistant and sweat-resistant
  • Hypoallergenic/ Non-comedogenic
  • Over 700 sprays per bottle

Sunscreen for kids

WIN IT!

One winner will receive a bottle of KINeSYS Kids SPF 30 sunscreen.

HOW?

Leave a comment telling me your favorite outside activity. That’s it! (Of course if you want to subscribe to this blog that would be great, too, but not required.)

This giveaway ends July 7, 2010 at 11:59pm. Good luck! :)

(Disclosure: I was provided two bottles of sunscreen in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)

June Is Going To Be Awesome (Giveaway)

I am so happy that it is finally June! Here are ten reasons why:

1) My firstborn turns TWO on the 4th!

2) My “baby” turns ONE on the 25th!

3) June brings the official “start” of my favorite season (though it feels like summer has been here in Chicago for a few weeks now).

4) Lots of fresh fruits and veggies and grilling out means I’m eating healthier.

5) Spending most of our day outside means that the boys sleep well at night which means I get more sleep, too.

6) We will go on our first picnic of the year.

7) The boys get to wear their matching “My Dad Is Rad” t-shirts on Father’s Day.

8) Garage Sales, Farmer’s Markets, and Festivals will make our weekends fun!

9) We get to spend a lot of time with our friends and family this month.

10) THE “BIRTHDAY BASH” EVENT IS HERE!!!!!!!! To celebrate Jake and Luke’s birthdays I am throwing a blog party and you are all invited! There are going to be giveaways every weekday for the whole month of June and just for fun I may even add a few in on the weekends.

Let’s start things off right now!

The first giveaway this month will be a $25 gift card to my favorite store…. TARGET! There is only one way you can win this and that is by becoming a subscriber (RSS or email) and leaving a comment here on this post to let me know that you subscribe. The winner will be chosen on July 1st.

Subscribing is FREE and easy to do… On the right hand side, in the sidebar toward the top of this page there are two sections. One says “Don’t miss a post!” and one says “Receive new posts by email”. Choosing either of those helps ensure you won’t miss a giveaway this month. Please make sure to confirm your subscription when you get a confirmation email.

Disclosure: Target did not provide me with the gift card.

Make sure to check back tomorrow and the rest of this month for new giveaways! :)

A Touch Of Silver Jewelry Review & Giveaway

TOS-Pink-Logo

I’m very excited to showcase the jewelry shop, “A Touch of Silver”. Sandi, the owner of the shop, sent me a beautiful necklace and earring set to review.

The first thing that I noticed was the way that the jewelry was packaged. Wrapped in beautiful paper, with a ribbon on the top, you could tell that Sandi takes pride in her business.

When I opened the box I found a wonderful beaded necklace and earring set. I had my younger sister put them on so I could take some pictures and the first thing she said when she saw them was “ooh pretty”. Here is a picture of the set:

Morgan wearing the jewelry

Aren’t they pretty? I love the colors. This is what Sandi said about this set: “It is so versatile. Some people enjoy wearing larger jewelry and others wear smaller pieces. This one is perfect for either one.”

Here’s a little more Sandi shared with me in a letter: “I am a one-girl company and I really enjoy what I do! I love to help ladies be able to wear pretty jewelry without spending a lot of money. We are all on a budget or we need to be, especially now in this economy.” She also shared that if people do not see exactly what they are looking for they should just email her so she could work with them on getting exactly what they are looking for in a particular color or style.

I loved the beaded pieces but figured that since it was called “A Touch of Silver” there were probably other styles of jewelry in her shop as well. Sandi told me that she adds new pieces to her site approximately every two weeks so there are always new items to choose from. I picked out a few of my favorites to show you:

Black Beaded Bangle Bracelets

Silver Rose Ring

Cross Necklace

Wondering how you can get your hands on some of this beautiful jewelry?? Well…

*You can buy it from her website. (oh and shipping is FREE. Love that!) OR you can win it here! Sandi has generously offered TWO $25 gift certificates to her shop for me to give which means there will be TWO winners for this giveaway!!

Career Chaos: How to Raise a Family While Climbing the Corporate Ladder

The following is a guest post from Candi Wingate, President of Care4Hire.com.

It’s a struggle that many of us face: running a household while running off to work.  Sometimes the sheer volume of “stuff” that we have to accomplish – from leading a staff meeting to leading the Cub Scout troop – is just staggering.

Here are some tips to help you feel more in control:

  • Empower your children to be independent.  Let them choose their own healthy snacks, outfits and so forth.  You won’t be sweating the small stuff, and they’ll be delighted with the “power’ that you’ve given them.
  • Embrace your imperfections.  So you didn’t serve a home-cooked meal tonight.  Who cares?  Serve your frozen lasagna with a smile.
  • Focus on work while you’re at work and on home when you’re at home.  Don’t worry about your emails, to do lists and pending meetings while you’re spending time with your kids.  Likewise, don’t worry about your kids while you’re at work. You’ve left them in capable, loving care, so focus on your work and get it done so you can get home to them.
  • Force yourself to disconnect.  In today’s age of laptops, iPhones and Blackberries, you’re always accessible and “on the clock.”  Learn that it’s OK to shut down all of your electronics to play board games (or help with homework, or go for a walk) with your kids.
  • “Hire” your child as your assistant.  Occasionally, I need to work while I’m home with my kids.  They used to pout about it until I hired them to help me.  I give them special projects, like filling the paper tray on my printer, sharpening my pencils and even (supervised) paper shredding.  They also enjoy doing “paperwork” (coloring or workbooks) at their desks, while I work at mine.

Care4hire.com is an online database for families and caregivers to search babysitters, housekeepers, tutors, elder/companion care, pet sitters and other miscellaneous service.   A free preview of available caregivers is available to families. Whether you need a caregiver for a few hours to a few days, you will find it at Care4hire.com. Once you are a registered member, you will be given immediate access to caregiver through email and phone.

Candi has offered to giveaway 1 Gift Certificate for a free membership ($34.99 retail value) to Care4hire.com; which gives you 1 month to login and contact caregivers. I recommend this service to others since before my children I was actually a nanny on this site. Please note that I have received no compensation in any form for doing this post. I just think that every mom occasionally needs some time to rediscover the woman she was before she had children and some quiet time or time out can help her do this :)

Also, remember this website not only offers caregivers for children but pet sitters, elder care, tutors, housekeepers, and more!
