Goodnight Sweetheart Review and Giveaway

With Valentine’s Day coming up, many of us are looking to reconnect with our significant others and I love this card game, Goodnight Sweetheart- Couple’s Edition. Their website says, “2 cards…2 people…2 minutes… Sweet, FUN, adorable!!!!  Create your “better together” today.  A card each before bed….or play it in its longer version for a DATE NIGHT that will become your favorite.”

There are “sweetheart cards”, “action cards”, “sharing cards” and “wild cards” for couples to choose from. Here are a couple of samples of what’s on the cards:

Action Card: “Give me three little kisses”

Sharing Card: “Who was your first crush? Describe him or her.”

Sweetheart Card: “Name something that I did early on in our relationship that made you think, “Hmmm…this person could REALLY be someone significant to me…”

Wild Card: “Draw a sharing card OR nuzzle me, behind each ear”

We are all busy so I love how this game reconnects couples in just two minutes a day. The game was fun to play and I like how there was a mix of serious questions and  fun questions.

It should also be noted that Goodnight Sweetheart also has other editions including Goodnight Sweetheart: My Teen, Goodnight Sweetheart: My Tween, and Goodnight Sweetheart: My Child. They also have Goodnight Sweetheart: Nightcap Notes, which are notes finished by you.

Splendid Littles For Target Review and a Target Giveaway

Target is my favorite store so when I had the chance to do a review of their new line, Splendid Littles, and give away a Target giftcard to one of my readers I jumped at it. I was sent a whole box of goodies from Target and BabyCenter and am excited to share the line with you. Here are a few of my favorite items from the line:

My first thoughts on these clothes when I saw them were that they were fun and modern. I loved the bright colors and how soft they were, too. Jacob, my two year old, is starting to get pickier with his clothing and pulls and chews on it when something is uncomfortable and he wore one of the Splendid Littles hoodies without a problem.

Arctic Ease Review and Giveaway

I recently had  a chance to try out the Arctic Ease Cryotherapy (cold therapy) wraps. The packaging said they were suitable for “sprains, repetitive motion injuries, the pain associated with arthritis, minor burns, bruises, and muscle cramps”. I have a lot of pain in my hands (hopefully just from using the computer too much and not early arthritis) so I thought these would be great for that.

According to the website-

“Arctic Ease wraps and pads are an incredibly simple but effective alternative to traditional cold therapy. They absorb heat energy from the body to cool the covered area. The absorbed heat is then lost to evaporation, which allows for hours of targeted cold therapy. Arctic Ease is ready to use right out of the package — no refrigeration is necessary. And mobility isn’t limited since Arctic Ease conforms to the affected area without the need for clips or tape. Arctic Ease is reusable, odorless and environmentally friendly.”

My thoughts-

I tried one of the pads on my left hand. The pads felt wet and rubbery but left my hands dry. Once placed on my skin and pressed on my hand, my skin felt cool. I left the pad on for 20 minutes without any discomfort and was able to perform tasks without a problem (much different than if I had been using an ice pack). The pain was relieved (and still 30 minutes later as I’m typing I am without pain in my hand).

The wraps and pads are sold at popular pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS, as well as grocery store chains like Jewel-Osco and Cub Foods. The wraps retail for $11.99 and the pads are $8.99.

One winner will receive three Arctic Ease wraps and a t-shirt. (open to US readers only)

Update 1/23: Sponsor has changed this giveaway to 5 Arctic Ease wraps.

Dinosaur Train Sleepwear Giveaway

The hit television series Dinosaur Train ® is roaring into 2011 with an all-new episode premiering Monday, January 17 on PBS KIDS® (check local listings). In the all-new episode, “The Good Mom;” “Diamond Anniversary,” Mrs. Pteranodon meets fellow mom Millie Maiasaura, who is a little too over-protective of her kids. The two moms share some time comparing mothering methods in a play date at the Big Pond.  And, Mr. and Mrs. Pteranodon decide to surprise each other with gifts on their anniversary.

Regarding the first part of this all-new episode, “The Good Mom,” you might be interested to know that Maiasaura, meaning “good mother lizard”, was a large duck-billed dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous. Tassimo Home Brewing System Review and Giveaway

I love going out for coffee but it gets to be expensive so I was excited when Tassimo asked me to review their T20 Home Brewing System.

I love that the Tassimo has accessory kits to personalize the brewer. The company sent me red but they have other color options as well.

Isn’t that fun? Adds a shot of color to my otherwise neutral colored kitchen. The Tassimo T20 brews over 40 varities of hot and cold beverages including coffee, chai latte, cappucino, tea and more. It’s compact in size and there is zero cleanup after making something to drink.

I tried the Starbucks® Cappuccino Primo and added some chocolate syrup and Truvia sweetener and it was a yummy afternoon treat. Searching their site I found some other drinks I’d like to try including the Gevalia Caramel Latte Macchiato and the Gevalia Sweet & Creamy Iced Coffee. They also have a recipe page on the website.

Kolcraft Review and Giveaway

I am happy to announce that I have been accepted into the Kolcraft Moms review program. What does this mean? It means I will share products with you twice yearly and it means you will have a chance to win some awesome Kolcraft products!

In September we were blessed to receive a Contours Options II Tandem double stroller. I was very excited about this because for the past 14 months I had been using a hand me down stroller so it was nice to have a new one to use.

The above picture is the stroller straight out of the box. I found the directions pretty easy to understand and the stroller easy to put together. It only took about half an hour for me to set it up and only required a screwdriver which was a tool that is easily accessible. My first thoughts when the stroller was put together were “It’s beautiful!” and “It’s huge!”

The next day we took the stroller out for our first walk and I “christened” our brand new stroller with half a can of Dr. Pepper. I was happy to see that it wiped off easily and my clumsiness didn’t stain our stroller. We went for a few more family walks and on one of them Lucas even fell asleep! Must be a comfortable ride!

After using the stroller for a few weeks I’d like to share what I think about this stroller:

What I LOVE:

*This stroller can be used SIX different ways! My boys can face each other, both face me, both face towards the front, or each face different directions. I can also use it with just one seat which will be great for day long outings when Jacob gets older because we can put Lucas in the seat, Jacob can walk, and we can put a cooler and bags in the back of the stroller.

*Two cupholders in the parent tray- Great for when both Sinisa and I are out with the boys. Before, one of us always had to carry our drink.

*Both seats recline- Our old stroller had this feature but it was impossible for the front seat to recline with a child in the backseat but since the seats rotate this is no longer a problem for us.

*Adjustable canopies- I like that the canopies can be adjusted so as the child gets taller the canopy can be raised higher. I only wish Jacob would use the canopy!

*Children’s cupholders- In our old stroller both child trays had cupholders but none of their cups actually fit in the cupholders so they were pointless. The Kolcraft stroller has large cupholders that fit all of our sippy cups AND they can be removed which is a great feature.

*Large basket underneath- This is an awesome feature! I love that there is plenty of room for everything that our family of four need to bring with us on outings.

I would only change two features about this stroller. I would add child trays for snacks. My children are getting older so they can just hold baggies or containers of snacks so it’s not that big of a deal anymore but may be for those with younger children. I also wish that I did not have to take off the seats to close the stroller when putting it in my trunk but to me the other features of the stroller make it worth it.

One reader will win a Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller.

Baby Einstein Discovery Kits Review and Giveaway

My boys and I recently had the opportunity to review a few of the new Baby Einstein Discovery Kits. Having viewed the videos before with children but never watching them with my own boys I wondered how they would like them and how the items in the kit would work together.

I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and though these kits are geared towards children under 18 months, Jacob (my oldest) enjoyed them as well. He pointed out items he knew and told me what they were and especially enjoyed the one with the colors since we are currently working on identifying colors.

My favorite part about the kits is what the chart above shows. Each kit contains a DVD, a book, and a CD. I love that the boys can watch the movie while I get some household chores done, listen to the CD while they are riding in the car, and then I can read the book to them at night. The DVDs use bright colors and interesting characters so they are fun for children and entertaining at the same time. All children learn differently so having multiple ways for them to learn the material is great.

I have a set of 3 Discovery Kits to give to one lucky reader.

HOW TO ENTER (leave a comment for each one):

Halls Cough Drops Review and Giveaway

Last winter my family was continuously sick so I jumped at the chance to do a review of HALLS cough drops. We were sent the HALLS Sugar Free Honey-Lemon drops and the HALLS vapor action drops in cherry flavor.

During the cold and flu season a pack of Halls can always be found in Sinisa’s coat pocket and by our bathroom sink. He loves HALLS products and believes they are “fast and reliable” (his exact words).

I am more of a candy-like cough drop girl and don’t like anything that tastes too much like medicine. Thankfully I found HALLS Breezers which are a perfect cough drop for me.

While I was on the HALLS website I found a great guide that helps you figure out which cough drops would be best for you and your throat. I didn’t realize there were so many different ones to choose from!

TWO Making Time For Mommy readers will each win TEN (10) HALLS sticks

HOW TO ENTER (leave a comment for each):

1) Tell me which HALLS product you like the most.

2) Subscribe to Making Time For Mommy

2) Tweet “Enter to win a HALLS prize pack from @aliciamarie112 at”

This is a quick giveaway! Giveaway ends on November 10, 2010 at 11:59pm.

(Disclosure: This post was written for Family Review Network & HALLS who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest review.)

P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Review and Giveaway

Date nights out are rare since I’ve become a parent. Normally Sinisa and I spend our date nights in watching movies or DVR’d shows while eating dinner (and of course dessert!) We recently had the chance to try a meal from the new P.F. Chang’s Home Menu line of frozen meals. I love the restaurant so I wanted to see if the frozen meals available tasted like the meals I can get when I eat out.

While at the store I chose the Shanghai Style Beef. All of the meals were on sale for considerably less than we would have spent at the restaurant. It was easy to make on the stovetop, taking less than 15 minutes, and tasted delicious. Sinisa described it as “flavorful and authentic.” We did add rice to create a complete meal. This package (with the additional rice) created three servings so there was a leftover lunch for me.

One Making Time For Mommy reader will get to try out a P.F. Chang’s Home Menu meal.

Aquaphor Review and Giveaway

With winter comes dry skin and the return of eczema so when I was contacted about reviewing Aquaphor products and offering a giveaway to my readers I said “yes, please!” I have used Aquaphor healing ointment in the tub for Jacob’s eczema in the past and this summer had a chance to try out their Lip Repair product. Recently I was sent the Aquaphor gentle wash and shampoo. I loved that it was scent-free and gentle on my toddler’s skin.

According to their website, Aquaphor healing ointment has many uses. It brings comfort and relief to dry, chapped skin, cracked hands and feet, chapped lips, eczema related problems, and minor cuts and burns.

Aquaphor’s products include:

Aquaphor Lip Repair

Lulu Photobook Review and Giveaway

Hands-down my mom’s favorite items to receive as a gift are those with pictures of her grandchildren on them. When I had the chance to review a photo book for I knew it would be the perfect gift for my mom’s birthday. I spent hours gathering pictures online of my mom with her four grandchildren and then I used Lulu’s studio to create a custom hardcover book.

Lulu’s studio was easy to use. Once I chose my book size I chose a theme for the book (which was just the background design of the pages). The pages were already designed but I loved that I could change the layout of them easily.

Once I inserted the pictures and had the layout perfectly I then added text to some of the pages. Afterwards, I previewed my book and published it.

Here are some pictures of the final product:

The cover

Dedication page

Page with picture and text

The book turned out beautifully! It looked professionally bound and was printed on high quality photo paper. I really loved that I could completely customize the design and layout and easily switch pictures around while I made it. Another great feature about is that people can create a book and then sell it on

One reader will win a hardcover 9X7 photobook (20 pages)

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type (Ticket Giveaway)

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the original children’s book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin, Lifeline Theatre’s KidSeries  presents a remount of their smash hit musical adaptation of Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. SoyJoy Review and Cookbook Giveaway

While in New York for BlogHer I attended a SoyJoy sponsored brunch. I wrote about it on ShePosts here.

Michele, from my review team, tried some of the SoyJoy bars and here is what she had to say about them:

“L.O.V.E, I am in love! I am in love with the tastiest little bar chocked full of good for you things…SoyJoy! That’s right, SoyJoy. Not only does SoyJoy use U.S. grown non-GMO soy for these delish bars, but they made sure they were only using whole soy, real fruit, they are gluten free, low GI, and have no trans fat.

I have to be honest…I have never met a SoyJoy bar I didn’t like. I love that they make a great snack choice for Mr. Not So Big as well as myself. They are convenient (just throw then in your purse or bag), have protein, and have real fruit pieces (you can actually see them), along with great flavors. For the purpose of this review, I was given blueberry, strawberry, and their newest flavor, banana. Blueberry and strawberry certainly top my list of yummy and the banana was my little guy’s fav. SoyJoy comes in 6 flavors, Banana, Blueberry, Strawberry, Berry, Mango Coconut, and Apple Walnut.

At this point you may be wondering “Where can I get my hands on these delish bars too?” If you check out their website; you will be able to locate a store near you that carries them. Don’t worry, I’ll leave a few for you, I won’t shelf clear ;) Having said all this, I feel as though I should point out that there are a few people that maybe do not have the same love for SoyJoy as I do. Give SoyJoy a chance and make your own determination.”

Reduces annoying wrinkling and bunching in the shoe

“No heel” design allows children to put on socks with confidence and keeps little feet from outgrowing their socks so quickly.

Keeps Feet Dry & Healthy
SmartKnitKIDS™ Socks are made with high-tech fibers that wick moisture away helping control odor or “stinky feet”.

This mom’s take:

These socks are great. I got small for Lucas (my one year old) and medium for Jacob (my two year old). They stayed on the boy’s feet all day long without falling off or irritating them. Bonus: They came with little bug cutouts that Jacob liked playing with!

SuperBaby Book Review and Giveaway

I recently had the chance to review SuperBaby: 12 Ways to Give Your Child a Head Start in the First 3 Years, a book that came out last week. SuperBaby shows parents how to take advantage of the critical first three years of their baby’s life. As a mom of a one and two year old I found a lot of useful information in this book and I haven’t even finished reading it yet!

At first I didn’t know what to expect because I wondered if the term “SuperBaby” fit what I really wanted my children to be. The press release for this book explained though that “Raising a superbaby is not about creating an überbaby: a perfect, genius who will get into all the right preschools and colleges. Instead, it is about raising a child who is empathetic, resilient, and is emotionally intelligent. It is about nurturing a baby to help her reach her full potential.” That IS what I wanted for my children so I dove into the book.

In each chapter of SuperBaby, Dr. Jenn focuses on one of twelve areas that greatly impact a baby’s development. These include respectful communication, responding to cues, creating security and predictability, the importance of touch, promoting language development, sign language, foreign language, the importance of play, reading, screen (tv) time, reducing exposure to toxic chemicals, and eating & nutrition.

I was especially interested in the chapter on language development. Dr. Jenn says that “it has been shown that the sheer number of words spoken to a child is directly proportionate to the size of her vocabulary. However, this applies only to direct conversations you have with your child. The words she overhears from television, videos, radio, or other conversations do not count.” I was happy to learn this because I talk all the time to my toddler and was told by someone that I talked “too much”.

I also read something about sharing that made perfect sense to me but that I don’t really practice that often. Dr. Jenn suggested that parents share with their children (which I already do) but that when we do so we narrate what we are doing. Saying things like “I will share my drink with you.” “Can I have a sip of your drink…we are sharing a drink!” “It’s my turn, and then it will be your turn… we are taking turns… we are sharing!” A simple idea but putting words to our actions helps a lot!

Overall, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read in this book and look forward to reading more of it over these next few weeks (and probably years as I refer back to it). I also hope to share guest posts from the author with more tips on how we can give our young children a head start in life.

Ziploc Review and Giveaway

Ziploc bags have hundreds of uses. Just this week I used them to store Jacob’s partially eaten sandwich, puzzle pieces, m&m’s, and half of a tomato. So many uses means that my family goes through boxes of Ziploc bags monthly so I was excited when I had the chance to review some Ziploc products.

I reviewed the Ziploc brand storage bags with the smart zip seal, Ziploc brand freezer slider bags, Ziploc brand sandwich bags, and the Ziploc brand smart snap containers. I had used the sandwich bags and the containers before but not the other two products.

Ziploc slider bags with expandable bottoms

I loved the Ziploc slider bags. First of all, it was great knowing that the bag was actually closed because it had a zipper on it and I knew when it was all the way to the left the bag was properly closed. The bags had a space to write on them which is helpful for labeling what is in the bag or when the food in the bag was made. My favorite part about this bag though was the expandable bottom. I think that it’s a great concept and helps the bags stand up so that the items don’t fall out of the bag when it’s open.

One reader will win a set of Ziploc products-

*Ziploc Brand Storage Bags with the Smart Zip Seal

My Purple Toes Children’s Book Review and Giveaway

My Purple Toes is a creative children’s board book written for children under eight-years-old that tells a story about a father’s experience navigating life with purple painted toenails. From mom to the kids to their dog, everyone reacts differently to dad’s purple toes showing their surprise, embarrassment, and even laughter.

Throughout the book, children can look for dad’s toes in various environments and also find a friendly frog with purple toes that hides on each page. In addition to entertaining, “My Purple Toes” teaches a simple, yet relevant lesson about the importance of acceptance, enjoying life and being different.

“My Purple Toes” features cheerful, imaginative illustrations by artist Tate Nation on its board-style book, offering durability ideal for young children. “My Purple Toes” can be purchased online for $10.99. (above text taken from website)

I read this book to my two year old, Jacob. Though I’m pretty sure he did not “get” the lesson of the story he still enjoyed listening to mommy read it. We pointed out the toes on each page and then I’d ask “where are Jacob’s toes?” and “where are mommy’s toes?” He is at the age where he loves identifying body parts so he really enjoyed doing that.

As a mom I loved the lessons that the book taught which are being accepting of everyone, enjoying life to it’s fullest, and letting children know that it’s ok to be different and unique. I think those are really important lessons to teach children at a young age.

I was also happy to see that a portion of the proceeds from each book supports a charity called Soles4Souls, which collects and distributes shoes at no cost to people in need.

One person will win this review copy of My Purple Toes

Helping Teens With Acne (Giveaway)

I don’t have teenagers but I can speak from experience (as a lot of us can) that acne as a teenager is not fun. I wanted to share some tips for moms of teenagers from Dr. Levine, a dermatologist from Chappaqua, NY, who specializes in treating teenage acne:

Tip #1: Know what to look for

It’s important to recognize acne early. It can begin simply as few blackheads or red bumps on the nose or forehead.

Tip #2: Get started early

Don’t wait for your child’s acne to become severe before starting treatment. Beginning treatment while acne is still mild can result in better and faster control of the problem.

Tip #3: Start simple

Early acne can be treated simply with over-the-counter medicated washes and topical products.  Choose well tolerated products with benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient, such as Proactiv.

Tip#4: Know when to ask for help

If your child’s acne is particularly stubborn or scarring, seek the help of a dermatologist who can aid you in creating an effective treatment regimen.

To help teens that are suffering with acne, Making Time For Mommy has teamed up with Proactiv to giveaway Proactiv Plus for Teens. It comes with the core 3-step system, along with the Advanced Blemish Treatment (which is a spot treatment), and the Deep Cleansing Wash, which can be used on the whole body.

Covergirl Makeup Master (& Giveaway)

I was so excited when I got the chance to work with Covergirl on their Makeup Master campaign. I figured I would get a couple items in the mail but instead the generous folks at Covergirl sent me a huge box of stuff (literally it was almost as tall as my waist)! I opened it up to discover my own little makeup studio.

Covergirl sent me three kits to create different smoky eye looks. There was a natural look, a glam look, and a bold look. Each look uses three products: the SmokyShadow Blast, the Exact Liquid Line, and the LashBlast Mascara.

I normally go for a more natural look but my teenage sister wanted to try the “bold” look.  It was the first time I had applied makeup to someone else but I think I did a pretty good job. What do you think?

Left eye- "bold" smoky eye, Right eye- no makeup

"Bold" smoky look with closed eyelid

Find out lots more, watch videos, hear what others have to say and share your Smoky Eye Look at and on the Makeup Master Facebook page.

Covergirl has provided me with a $20 giftcard to Walmart so that one of you can try out the Smoky Eye Look yourself.

Leave a comment below telling me which look you would try: The Natural (brown), the Glam (silver), or the Bold (blue).

Half Pint House Handmade Review and Giveaway

One of my blogging friends, Megan, from Half-Pint House makes some beautiful handmade items. She would like to go to the Relevant blogging conference in October and is financing her trip by sewing her way to Relevant! Let me show you some of the wonderful things she makes:

I love this print! How cute would it be to make a library bag from it for your child to carry their books to and from the library?

Beautiful print and love that my business cards can be put in something pretty!

Think of the possibilities! Use it to hold change, crayons, pacifiers, a travel sized sewing kit...

What a great personalized gift this would make!

Along with having some great items in her shop, she has a wonderful selection of patterns– over 150 different choices! My favorite is the train pattern because Jacob loves trains and I haven’t seen many handmade shops that have a print for train lovers.

Wordless Wednesday: Babies (and a Giveaway)

Lucas and his cousin, Maddie

I have linked this picture to: Wordless Wednesday Home
5 Minutes for Mom ~ Go Graham Go! ~ Jolly Mom ~ Look What Mom Found… ~ Mom of 3 Girls ~
Momspective ~ MomStart ~ Two of a Kind… ~ Frosted Fingers

Today’s Giveaway:

One box of All Natural Boudreaux’s Butt Paste

This stuff works awesome (really)! I always used generic diaper rash cream in the past and the rashes always took a few days to go away. This past week Lucas had a diaper rash and when I used the Boudreaux’s “butt paste” his rash was gone by the next day.

I never knew there was such a huge difference in the quality of the diaper rash creams that were on the market so I always just bought the one that was the cheapest or one that I had a coupon for. Won’t be doing that anymore….

How to enter:

Leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about babies.

Is it their smell, the softness of their skin, their innocence? My favorite thing about babies is that they are so cuddly!

If you don’t need the diaper rash cream but still want to leave a comment that’s ok too (just let me know).

Giveaway ends July 23rd at 11:59pm.

(Disclosure: Blairex Laboratories, Inc. sent me one box of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste to try out and one to giveaway to my readers. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review about this product.)

Take lots of pictures? (Giveaway!)

I don’t know about you but I love to take pictures of my family. I take pictures of my boys at play, at the zoo, and even after a messy dinner. I then upload all the pictures to my computer and now have months (ok, shamefully over a year’s worth) of pictures waiting to be printed. And then once I print them they just sit in a box because as much as I’d like to say I scrapbook I haven’t done a single page yet. All these good intentions I have and wonderful ideas of things I can create with my pictures and there they sit on Snapfish just waiting to be printed. Sound familiar? Well if so, then you are in luck….

Vistaprint is offering one lucky reader a personalized, 12×12 photo book! No need to print out your pictures! The winner can choose from hard cover, leather cover or linen cover for their book. It includes 26 pages and a variety of layout and design options and free shipping. The value of this giveaway is over $50!

Vistaprint also offers products such as birthday invitations, custom t-shirts, and personalized mugs.

in your comment below tell me what special person or event you would love to make a photo book for.

Giveaway ends July 21, 2010 at 11:59pm. I am sorry but this is only open to U.S. residents.

Inspired Gifts Review and Giveaway

I love taking pictures so I was thrilled when Inspired Gifts agreed to let me review one of their products. Inspired Gifts makes wonderful photo products. Here is a list of some of what you can create:

  • Gift books
  • Baby/Child Books
  • Journals
  • Guest Books
  • Playing Cards
  • Canvas Prints
  • Dry Erase Boards
  • Posters
  • Bookmarks
  • Greeting Cards
  • Announcements
  • Calendars

You can also make day planners which is what I chose to review. I wanted a planner to keep track of all my blog posts and when all of my giveaways ended and I am happy to do so while I look at pictures of my family.

Here is what the Inspired Gifts website says about their day planners: “We know life’s daily tasks can sometimes be a chore, but you can make scheduling less stressful with a photo-filled day planner designed by you. Planners are spiral-bound and available in two sizes to accommodate full days and people on the go. You bring the photos, and we’ll give you the space to lay out your year in as much detail as you need. Add as many custom messages as you like to be sure you never again forget an important birthday or anniversary. Perhaps you know someone who might welcome a little help in the organization department? Planners also make great gifts.”

The day planner itself was pretty easy to make once I got the hang of it. Once you choose the pictures you want in the planner you can either decide what page you want each picture on or you can let the software place the pictures for you.

Here are my two tips on creating your own personalized items using Inspired Gifts and their software:

1) Create an account before you do anything else! I made the mistake of not doing so and lost all of my work because I accidentally exited the screen and it wasn’t saved anywhere. (If you have an account the pictures are saved.)

2) Keep in mind the product you are creating and how the pictures would look in the space that you have. I picked all of my pictures without even considering that the album I was doing was vertical. If a picture was horizontal and could be cropped it worked fine but any picture too wide didn’t work. They give you a choice so you could choose to have your pictures horizontal and then you would be fine but because I chose vertical it was a problem.

Here are a few pictures of my finished day planner:

Delivering Happiness Book Review and Giveaway

Ten great quotes from the book, Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hsieh (CEO of Zappos):

  1. “Together, we had built a business that combined profits, passion, and purpose. And we knew that it wasn’t just about building a business. It was about building a lifestyle…” (page 2)
  2. “There will never be another 1999. What are you going to do about it?” (page 53)
  3. “I had decided to stop chasing the money, and start chasing the passion.” (page 54)
  4. “So my advice is to stop trying to “network” in the traditional business sense, and instead just try to build up the number and depth of your friendships, where the friendship itself is the reward.” (page 82)
  5. “If your culture stays true to its values and/or mission statement, the words and images speak for themselves. Why? Because they’re real.” (page 141)
  6. “Make customer service a priority for the whole company, not just a department. A customer service attitude needs to come from the top.” (page 147)
  7. “With the internet connecting everyone together, companies are becoming more and more transparent whether they like it or not.” (page 151)
  8. “At the end of the day, just remember that if you get the culture right, most of the other stuff– including building a great brand– will fall into place on it’s own.” (page 154)
  9. “We must all learn not only to not fear change, but to embrace it enthusiastically and, perhaps even more important, encourage and drive it. We must always plan for and be prepared for constant change.” (page 163)
  10. “We must never lose our sense of urgency in making improvements. We must never settle for “good enough,” because good is the enemy of great…” (page 179)

These are just 10 great quotes that I found in this book which is over 240 pages long. I have to admit that I didn’t know how much I would get out of this book since I’m not a “business person” but I really enjoyed Hsieh’s conversational style of writing. I found myself starting to read and then before I knew it half an hour had gone by.

If you would like to learn more about this book check out the website: To get a copy for yourself you can find the book on Amazon or you can win one here!

Devon’s Bows Etsy Shop Review & Giveaway

One of my wonderful friends just opened up her etsy shop and I wanted to share it with all of you because her items are so cute! Her shop is called Devon’s Bows and here are some of my favorite items you can find in it:

4th of July Korker Hairbow

Alligator Prong Hairclips

Pair of Black and Pink Flower Hairbows

Large Sliver Flower Hairclip with Jeweled Center

Personalized Hairbow Holder

She also makes baby blankets, baby burp cloths, and fabric covered flip flops. Along with making adorable items I really love the fact that everything in her shop is inexpensive. I remember when my sister was little and she wore bows in her hair that cost $15-20 each but these ones are only $1.50-6 each. In my opinion Devon’s bows are cuter than the ones my sister used to wear and I love the patterns they come in. I am so thankful I don’t have a girl because if I did I would probably buy one in every color and design!

(Update 6/15: She just posted pictures of tutus!!)

So because she is my friend and she is awesome… Devon is giving away a $20 gift certificate to her shop to one very lucky Making Time For Mommy reader!!! Think of all the bows you can buy with that!

How to enter the giveaway

(you may do any (or all) of the following but please leave a separate comment for each):

  1. Visit Devon’s Etsy shop and let me know which item is your favorite.

The Wild Soccer Bunch Book Review (& Giveaway)

Today I would like to share a new series of children’s books with you called The Wild Soccer Bunch. If you have children ages 8-14 who enjoy soccer this is the perfect series for them.

Landon Donovan, captain of the Los Angeles Galaxy and the 2009 Major League Soccer’s MVP, had this to say about the books: “From the very first page I became a fan of the Wild Soccer Bunch. The stories unfold like an epic soccer game: mesmerizing, nail-biting, and fun.”

This international best-selling series of children’s book launched here in the United Stats on May 26th with the release of the first book called Kevin the Star Striker. Here is the summary from the back cover:

“When the last of the snow has finally melted, soccer season starts! Kevin the Star Striker and The Wild Bunch rush to their field. They have found that Mickey the Bulldozer and his gang, The Unbeatables, have taken over. Kevin and his friends challenge the Unbeatables to the biggest game of their lives. Can the Wild Bunch defeat The Unbeatables, or lose their field of dreams forever? Can they do what no team has done before?”

The Wild Soccer Bunch, Book 1: Kevin the Star Striker can be purchased at the Wild Soccer Bunch website or at other online retailers, such as Amazon. You can also win a copy of the book here!

There will be TWO winners in this giveaway.

Leave a comment telling me what sport your child enjoys playing the most.

Giveaway will end on July 13, 2010 at 11:59pm.

(Disclosure: I received copies of this book in return for sharing the series with my readers.)

Iced Coffee At Home (Keurig/Truvia Giveaways)

I reviewed the Keurig last month and shared that, while I loved it, I wished it made cold drinks. Imagine my surprise when I was contacted by Keurig about reviewing their “brew over ice” k-cups. Yes, brew over ice which means that I can use my Keurig to make iced drinks! I made one the other day and wanted to share with you all about the yummy iced coffee drink I made.

How to make an iced vanilla coffee drink at home:

Ingredients needed: ice, water, Keurig “brew over ice” k-cup (French Vanilla flavored), Truvia sweetener, and milk

1) Use your Keurig machine to brew coffee like normal (use the manual for step-by-step directions). Make sure to choose the 6 or 8 oz. cup choice on your brewer.

2) Put ice in a travel coffee mug (it can be in any cup but I used a travel mug because it has a lid)

3) Pour milk over ice (fill 1/4 of the way up the cup)

4) Add hot coffee

5) Add 2 packets of Truvia sweetner (I love this because it is natural and calorie free. It’s also not gritty like plain sugar.)

6) Put lid on the mug and shake. Pour into a cup of your choice and enjoy! :)

More about Truvia:

  • It is the first, great tasting, natural, zero-calorie sweetener.
  • It is a natural sweetener is made from rebiana, the best tasting part of the stevia leaf.  Stevia is a plant native to portions of northeastern Paraguay. It has been used to sweeten foods and beverages for more than 200 years.
  • It is a natural sweetener is available nationwide at grocery and retail stores
  • One packet of Truvia™ natural sweetener provides the same sweetness as two teaspoons of sugar.
  • More information can be found at
