Raise your hand if you’ve been sick already this year ✋ I’ve been sick a handful of times myself and winter isn’t even halfway over yet! As a mom, being sick is the worst because we don’t really get sick days between caring for our kids, working, running errands and taking care of our homes. Today I wanted to share some sick day essentials as well as a family recipe for baked macaroni and cheese that is absolutely fabulous (especially if you love cheese as much as I do).

Whether you are just shopping for sick day essentials to keep at home or creating a super thoughtful gift basket for a sick friend, these are things I always keep stocked up on:

OTC Medicines

Theraflu ExpressMax Severe Cold & Flu Caplets and TYLENOL® Cold + Flu Severe Warming Honey Lemon are two medicines I count on when I’m feeling under the weather. The Theraflu provides powerful relief without a prescription and helps defeat 7 cold & flu symptoms fast. Tylenol, the #1 doctor recommended pain relief brand, helps stop my painful coughing, congestion and sore throat.

Campbell’s® Chicken Noodle Soup

Campbell’s® soups warm me up when I need it most. These soups have been a staple in my family’s pantry since I was little and I love that they have no artificial colors or flavors. From their chicken noodle soup to their tomato soup (paired with grilled cheese of course!) we love them all. The soup now comes in a value 4-pack so it’s easy to stock up on it!

Original Premium Saltine Crackers*

When I have a stomach flu saltine crackers are a must and Nabisco PREMIUM is the #1 saltine cracker. They are often one of the few things that I can hold down when I’m feeling nauseous. I also love to have them anytime I’m eating soup!

Lipton Bedtime Bliss Herbal Supplement

Lipton’s new wellness range of herbal supplements are boosted with botanicals and carefully blended with essential oils that are known for their wellness benefits. The Bedtime Bliss one, with chamomile, mint and orange peels, contains no caffeine so it’s the perfect thing to have in the evenings before bed.

A box of soft tissues are always next to me when I have a runny nose or a cough.

Hand Sanitizer

When I’m sick the last thing I want to do is spread my germs so I use hand sanitizer to keep the germs at bay.

Baked macaroni and cheese

Another thing I must have when I’m sick? Easy meals that don’t take much prep! Though soup is my typical go-to meal when I’m sick, because I always feel better after a bowl of it, there is just something about making a recipe that reminds me of my childhood that cheers me up and brightens up my day when I’m not feeling well. One of my favorite family recipes is baked macaroni and cheese made with cheese curds and stewed tomatoes. It’s a recipe my grandma made when I was younger and that my mom still makes. I follow the recipe they use but we’ve changed it up a bit with the addition of ricotta cheese to go along with the cheese curds. This macaroni and cheese is the cheesiest mac and cheese you’ll ever eat!

  • 2 1/2 Cups Of Elbow Macaroni
  • 18 oz. White Cheese Curds
  • 14 oz. Can of Stewed Tomatoes
  • 4 oz. Ricotta Cheese
  • Salt & Pepper (to taste)

Cook elbow macaroni according to the box’s instructions and then let cool. In a large greased casserole dish combine all ingredients and bake (uncovered) at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.

And when it comes out of the oven…. so much gooey cheese!
